Okay, so I recently got my first dog a week ago. He is a six month old puggle and at first it took him a while to get used to his new surrounding. He understands the boundaries of the house and rules when I walk him. And he has grown much attached to me. Follows me everywhere. He is doing great. He loves to play with my neighbors Shitzu. One problem. He doesn’t play with his toys. I bought him a couple squeaky toys and rope toys. He is very playful outside and very calm inside but just will not even touch his toys. I do try very hard to play with him with the toys, but he seems very uninterested. Is because he just needs more time to adapt to his new home?

my puppy was JUST LIKE THAT, i bought him some toys that squeeked then i would sqeaked them HE HATED THEM, he didnt want to play with them at all! however this can be a problem because when your not able to be around him he will be bored and sleep all day witch is not happy. but heres what i did, take him to petsmart or petco bring him, this will be fun for you and him and you get to know your pets like or dislikes, ask an employee there to help you that way before you buy he gets to try, same with snacks, pet food, etc. lol just because you like it dont mean he will.

i bought a kong for my rat terrier puppy and he LOVES it, it keeps him busy for most of the day (and he is a veryyy active puppy!)

Some dogs are just not into toys. Of my 12, only 2 play with toys on a regular basis, even though there are toys all over the house.

Some dogs don't like toys. Just keep trying with different toys Bone, Tug, Stuffed animal, try toy where you hide treats in them. I have 2 min pin one loves to tug the other to play catch you will find the right one for him. Have fun with your new pup. Happy New Years!

Maybe the toys are too big for him or too hard or just don't smell right to him. Don't worry about it. As long as he is not chewing shoes or scratching up the furniture, he is fine. When he is ready, he will develop a liking for something I'm sure but in the meantime - if he is eating and sleeping and "going to the bathroom" then he is fine.

My dog has tons of rope toys, squeaky toys, and chew toys like kong. He won't touch ANY of them. If it isn't a plush toy, my dog wants nothing to do with it. Perhaps you could try buying your dog some plush toys.

He may just not care for toys. Is he having any problems chewing food? I have two pugs, one of which had some bad teeth. He would pick up toys but couldn't really play with them.

But I doubt that is the case. I really think he may just enjoy your company more. Maybe you need to get him to play. My dogs didn't just pick the toys up, we had to teach them to play with them.

You might just want to give him more time. Our old Beagle never played with his toys either. Some dogs just don't enjoy playing. But yes it might be that he needs more time to adapt.

I think that's the beagle part of him showing. In my experience, they aren't big on toys, nor on chewing. They like food, sofas, and petting much more. :)

Try petting and playing with your pup without toys, they just may not appeal to him.

Not all dogs are interested in the standard "doggy" toy.He may find them boring.Try getting him a training ball. You put treats in them and he has to work out how to get them out. It gives the dog something to work at!! He may be interested in an ordinary ball, which is the only thing my dog will play with!!!
