She is doing well with peeing outside and hasn't had an accident in the house for 3 days. We got her from the Humane Society. However, at night, even after she has peed, she stills whins for about 45 minutes or so. Then around 3 or 4am she wakes us up and has to go outside again. When she comes back, she doesn't want to reenter her crate and whins forever!

Will this keep up and what should we do to get her to stop whinning at night? We run her at lunch in the backyard and after we come home from work. So she gets decent exercise.

Anyone have an Australian Shepherd that can help?

I have had the same problem with my puppy.

First, pick up the dogs food and water about 2 hours before you put her to bed. This should keep her from having to go pee in the middle of the night.

Second, have a radio playing next to the dogs crate. Also, if she is good with stuffed animals, put one in her crate with her. This might comfort her enough to allow her to sleep.

It worked for me, I hope it will work for you too.

How old is she because it usually goes that puppies can hold their urine for an hour for evey month old they are. (4 months old=4 hours) Just ignore her in the crate because my australian shepard the first night we had her whined the whole night and between my mom, dad, and myself she slept in our laps the whole night (although we didnt know it at the time) One of us would go get her out of her crate and hold her until she went to sleep then put her back up. Then once we got to bed she would start whining and some one else would get up and do the same thing. All night this went on and we didnt know that the others were getting up all night to. We were exhausted and the followwing night just let her whine all night. She finally got it that she was to go to sleep and she only whined when she needed to go potty. Now she is 3 and sleeps through the night and doesnt whine unless she wants in the house from outside. Good luck and hopefully she will grow out of it.

OK maybe its best if you go to a vet because the puppy may have an UTI (Unary track infection) or a disorder wit it unary area and their might be a real problem so i would suggest you go to a vet and find out what the problem is.
