Definitly keep him on a leash. Take him to the same place every time and use little light jerks on the leash with the command"go pee pee" or whatever to keep his attention on what he's supposed to do. When he goes, praise him.

Trust me, ALWAYS use the leash. Especially for a new puppy. You have to get them used to the leash because that get him used to the fact that you are always in control. I had my puppy on a leash from day 1 and she hated it but eventually gave in. Now she itches for that leash every day cause she knows it means a long walk.

I only take her of the leash once we reach our destination (a park, or a secluded area) and that is only if she behaved during the walk with no pulling and acting up.

You're doing good by keeping him on the leash keep it up.

If you have a fenced in back yard, you can let the puppy out off leash. If not, you need to use a leash.

Always remember: A leashed dog is a safe dog.

Definitely keep him on his leash and walk with him until he goes. When he gets familiar with the area (stakes his claim) then if the area is fenced in he'll be ok. You sure don't want him to run away or get hit. Train him this way on the leash. Good luck.

Definitely use a leash! If your dog is a puppy you don't want him to run away!

Just don't be too forceful with the leash if you're taking him out to go to the bathroom, go wherever he wants to go...dogs like to find a good spot.

Leash is fine, but if you're in an enclose area such as a garden then let him run free!! Just be gentle with him on the leash, he could get hurt.

everyday i take out our German Shepard out to go to the bathroom i just have a 3 yard give or take tracking leash and she can run around. If you don't want to risk your pug running off then i wouldn't take it the leash.

I Always keep your dog on a leash unless you are enclosed within your own backyard.

i never recommend dogs being off-leash unless they are really well trained. You could also being risking a fine if your state has a law on the books about dogs not being on a leash,

A leash is good it gets them used to it early so they don't have problems later and their are leash laws in about everywhere.

You're puppy is new and should be on a leash if you let him off he might run away since he don't know any better. You should probably train him in a fenced in area.
