My 15 week old puppy only gets water during meals. When he needs to go he sits by the door but he does this about every 5 minutes for about an hour after he eats.

We are planning on adopting a dog from the local shelter (first time dog owners) We want a dog that would go walking with us year round and is relatively active. We recently were walking a family dog for a week and fell in love with his agility. We would let him off the leash in the park and he would run like a horse. It was then we decided we wanted a dog that we could trust to let off the leash in some areas. (that's why beagle was out).
Plan to have kids next year and have an elderly that uses a walker and so that is another consideration. Also I want a dog that doesn't shed much. Dog that looks and acts like a dog... no scrappy.

So now after much reading about it I think boxer might be a good mix for us. What do you experts out there think?
Also, I found a dog at the shelter that is boxer and pitt mix, the say he is very calm for his mix, walks with you on the leash, and is volunteers favorite. The pitt part is what is concerning me. Should it?

ok so yesterday morning my bf told me that our dog vomited, before she had eaten anything that day, and it was just yellow liquid. i didnt really worry all that much, dogs puke.

then last night, she got REALLY wild and was running around the house and we were trainning her to jump things and she was getting really tired after a while and drinking lots of water and we decided she needed to calm down so we sat on the couch and she ate her dinner and jumped on the couch and puked on me. yes, right on me. it was yellow again, but it was thick and full of kibble.

other than that, she's acting fine and has been fine all morning. do you think she just ate too fast after being so hyper? or should i be a little more worried? i think its just the yellow coloring that has me a little worried, but i've always had dogs in my life, so i know they puke, even if it doesnt mean they are sick.

It isn't kennel cough so don't even bother telling me about it, My vet said she has a cold so far she's had it for 8 days, she is only eating a handful of food and some water each day she's losing weight and the vet isn't helping me he was more concerned about worm meds when she doesn't even have worms.

I know its not very hygenic. Why do they do it? Is it loving? He does nibble us aswell, but only gently. He licks my face, feet etc. before I can stop him!

Brooklyn
Abby
Mocha
Madden

Which of these should we choose, or what other names would be cute?

Why is it that people who hunt with their dogs are critisized so much?

I was just in a conversation with some of my coworkers. There was a heated discussion about how hunting will make your dog blood thirsty. I couldn't believe how many people felt that way. (Not to mention the age old argument of killing wildlife, which in my opinion is not quite the issue that people make it out to be.)

We had German Short-Haired Pointers in our family when I was growing up. They were hunting dogs for my Dad and Grandpa. I never saw happier dogs! They weren't blood thirsty by any means! Everyone talks about how "remember what that type of dog was bred for..." but when it has to do with hunting, opinions change because some birds die.

Is it me or do people twist things around to make whatever it is they do in their life the right thing?

(I hope this makes sense. I had a hard time putting my thoughts into words.)

I have a three year old female boxer, ever since she was about a year old she started itching all the time. It started out mostly in her ears, she would itch them until almost all the fur came off, my step-mom took her to the vet and they treated it like an ear infection, then the itching spread to all over her body, now she itches EVERYWHERE she scratches herself all over to the point that her fur will come out and she gets big bloody scabs, sometimes she will also get hives under her fur that you can actually see. My step mom keeps taking her to the vet and they keep saying that its just skin allergeys, we have gone to this same vet for many years with all of our past dogs and they have done a great job, however i dont think that this is just skin allergeys. We also have an older boxer (he is 6 now) who had similar problems but not this bad, and mostly with his ears, but he grew out of it by the time he was her age.

This is not a question, but a suggestion for members of this community.

I have noticed that a lot of people are sugessting that you should hit a dog/ tap it on its nose/ hold its mouth shut/ etc when trying to teach it not to bite or do other less than favorable things.

THIS IS WRONG. Hitting your dog will not solve your problems. It will just teach the dog to fear you and may cause further violent behaviours.

Do not hit your dog in any manner. Please.

The beagle is traditionally bred short haired. There is a gene that is recessive but does reveal itself at times. Have seen purbred AKC and Canandian Member beagles with the long hair.

She's a few months old how do i get started?

OK, the story so far; I used to live with my mum and bro. My bro went to uni in london in sep, and my mum has been quite ill for some time. She decided she wanted to sat with her bro for a while and leave my the house and dog. The house was rented, and I worked out that I could just about manage for a few months. But she rang late last week and said she wouldnt be comming back. Suddenly I was left with the house and its contents to pay for, nuuisance from debt collectors due to debts she has raised and a dog who has sadly been abandoned by her previous owner. After working out my financial status, I could not manage to keep the house on, and have told my mum to sort it out along with her other problems, rather than running away from them. I managed to find somewhere to move in, but they were a bit reluctant about the dog, so I thought it would be best to have her re-homed. Due to the circumstances, I wouldnt leave the dog with mum, after her abondoning her the first time.

My neighbor's dog had puppies about 4 weeks ago. She has allowed me to select my puppy first. How do I mark him? I've tried putting a small collar on him, but the other ones just pull it off. I also tried painting a nail, but he is a really fuzzy lab with black nails so it doesn't stay on either. What is something that will last for another 2 weeks?
Thanks for all your help.
