OK, the story so far; I used to live with my mum and bro. My bro went to uni in london in sep, and my mum has been quite ill for some time. She decided she wanted to sat with her bro for a while and leave my the house and dog. The house was rented, and I worked out that I could just about manage for a few months. But she rang late last week and said she wouldnt be comming back. Suddenly I was left with the house and its contents to pay for, nuuisance from debt collectors due to debts she has raised and a dog who has sadly been abandoned by her previous owner. After working out my financial status, I could not manage to keep the house on, and have told my mum to sort it out along with her other problems, rather than running away from them. I managed to find somewhere to move in, but they were a bit reluctant about the dog, so I thought it would be best to have her re-homed. Due to the circumstances, I wouldnt leave the dog with mum, after her abondoning her the first time.

I rang the RSPCA, explained the situation and that I was moving out sunday just gone, and all they said was 'There is a waiting list you know, of around 4 months' Shock horror!!! I started to panic and called other pet rescue services but they too had waiting lists. I am truly alarmed by this. They tell us we cant abbandon them, but wont take them when they are most needed to. I am thinking of writing to them to ask how they can advertise such over dramatised adverts, threatening to throw the book at people over it, yet when someone needs help, they cant / wont! What do you all think???
Dont get me wrong, I love the dog, and the place that I have moved into are being very good about it and allowing me the dog to stay there short term, thankfully. I dont really want to part with the dog, but under the circumstances, what choice have i got?

hi sorry to hear about your problem, have you tried friends and family, if not put up a colourful poster in all your local vets, pet shops, newsagents, ask your neighbours. Depending what breed he is, you havent mention, but alot of breeds have there own rescue places, have you tried the dogs trust, or even battersea dogs home, i have list a few good web sites where you can place an add, there are lots of people on answers who are looking for a dog, you could try them. I would of thought the rspca are trying not to take in any dogs/pups because it is so close to xmas, all the time he/she is with you they dont class it as urgent, which you can understand in a way. Have you tried your local kennels. Good luck, hope you find him/her a really nice home, unfortunalty there are some people who want a dog to either sell on at a high price, use it to fight or breed from, so you need to choose very carefully. I wish you all the best in finding a new owner and for sorting everything else out. Good luck. Please let us know what happens.

So many animals get surrendered to rescues every day. They just don't have the space for all of them. And in alot of the cases if they animal hasn't found a home w/in a period of time they will euthanize the animal. Now I'm sure you don't want this to happen. So what you should try and do is find it a home. What you can do is Post on Petfinder.com. I've gone to shelters and rescued dogs just for the purpose of finding them a home so they weren't put to sleep. It isn't that difficult. I've had phone calls from all over the country for some of the dogs I advertise on Petfinder.com. I also try and find out about the family that the dog is going to and if they are the right fit I give them the dog for free. But like I said, try posting the dog on the website, it's very easy. Good Luck.

How can you expect them to have room when people are abandoning their animals left and right? However, keep looking. There are more rescues out there. Is your dog a specific breed? Try a breed rescue. They often have foster homes and might have more open to take the dog. Don't give up on rescue sites or blame them from other people's irresponsibility. There is just so much space in a shelter. There is just so many foster homes. Keep looking and ask some of your own friends.

Yes there are waiting lists not because they are being mean but because loads of people want to get rid of their pets. You should have thought about rehoming the dog earlier and phoned to put her on the list not expect them to drop everything at the last minute to find a space in crowded kennels for your dog.
What area are you in and what is the dog. I may be able to help if I could have more details.

im so sorry for you,you have been put in a horrible position with regards to the dogs welfare.
Have you tried putting an advert in your local paprer?
Its a shame coz the poor thing must be terrified at all this going on.
I remember when me and my x split up,i left the house for 2 weeks so he could find somewhere to live,i paid the mortgage so i wanted the house.
Anyway i kept going back to check on my dog but for 5 days i couldnt go due to work and other things.
when i did go back my dog was on the verge of death.
My x had not fed the dog for 5 days(apparently to punish me),i rushed my dog the vets who said he had gastrointritis which is very serious.
My dog was given lots of injections and antibiotics and also given puppy food for a week coz he was that weak and his stomach couldnt digest his normal food.
I really feel sorry for your dog and if i didnt have my dog still i would gladly take her and give her a good home.
I really hope you find a good home for her and she is happy.

See if there is a rescue group in your area that will list the dog for you. If you are able and willing to at least keep the dog until it is found a suitable home, this will help the rescue as they won't have to worry about fostering the dog.

Please Please Please don't re-home her this close to Christmas, if at all possible wait until the New year when things aren't so manic!
Have you tried Dogs Trust? if you can offer them a small donation even if its only £20 it shows that you are a caring person and that you are not just given her up for no reason, explain the sitch to them.
I hope all works out.

The rescue is not open entry you may have a waiting list with any non kill organization.
The ones "throwing the book" at you will be open entry but in most likely hood will euthanize the dog.

The RSPCA will be reluctant to take on your dog if you can rehome her yourself, maybe advertise your dog in the Friday Ad or local newspaper?
