Yes, the momma dog will know how to take care of them. You just focus on taking care of momma. Make sure she's eating puppy food right now, for extra nutrients while she's nursing. Just keep an eye on the puppies, and contact a vet if you see any reason for health concern.

If she is healthy herself, and there aren't any problems, she will take care of them, but she needs some support from you.

Please provide them all with a safe QUIET place (away from other animals and little kids) to get as much rest as they need. Make sure they are all warm - mom too. Give mom all the food and water she wants. She needs a lot more than usual because she is nursing.

It is important that eventually you take mom and pups all to the vet for a check-up and to have the puppies first shots (it's the law in most states!). This will happen at about 6 weeks of age for the pups. At about 5-7 weeks, the pups will stop nursing and will start on soft food. (Get puppy food.)

If you have any concern that mom is not doing well, please take her and the pups to the vet asap. An ailing mom will not be able to help her pups survive.

Think about getting mom spayed in the near future, too. This can make her life longer, and make her less likely to acquire certain types of cancer and other medical conditions.

Good luck!

Ignorance isn't bliss especially in this case. Your dog and her puppies have paid the price for your ignorance. Educate yourself about dog breeding, do a search and get reliable info on how to care for the mother and the puppies. She should care for them, but the puppies will need vet checks. She will need extra feeding and calories along with larger amounts of water as her body is caring for the babies and needs these to supply adequate nutrition and avoid dehydration. Don't seperate the mother from the puppies until they are 8 weeks of age 12 weeks is optimum. They can not begin eating small amounts of hard food until they are 4 weeks of age. It's best to mix soft with it, but they will still need to nurse with their mother.

When all is said and done please have your dog fixed, it will lengthen her life and spare her from your ignorance.

Yes she does there are time you may have one puppy that doesn't get as much milk as they others and you just need to place that one on one of her nipples. but usually mom does a very good job without too much help from us. The one thing you can do is to call your vet and ask what is the best diet for the mom as nursing moms have greater dietary needs than non nursing moms. Good luck with your puppies and Happy Holidays

Yea she'll know what to do to take care of them but if she's a first time mother, sometimes they don't, so if she is a first timer and acts like she doesn't want to let them eat or stay in there with them, ya might want to put them all in a cage together so you can make sure they're getting fed.

as long as she is taking care of the puppies, all you have to do is keep the mom and pups in a warm clean place...make sure the mom has access to water and food ( a high protein dog food or one that is for lactating Moms) at all times, and change the blanket that the pups and Mom are laying on everyday

That would have to do entirely with the kind of relationship u have with the dog. If u do not know the dog and the dog does not know u, then yes, it is dangerous because she does not trust u enough. If u have a very good relationship with ur dog and ur dog has not shown any signs of possesion aggresion, then it may not be dangerous at all. Two of my dogs had litters and I had good relationships with both dogs. I was allowed to pick them up and touch them with no prob. I would still be carefull though.

Leave her alone. She will handle everything. When the puppies have their eyes open and are walking around that's when you should start messing with them. But for now it's best to just leave her be.
