I have 2 six month old puppies and I really need to find some heartworm protection for them. They are a small breed and weigh under 20 lbs right now.

I know that you can get it from the vet but I was wondering if I can buy it anywhere else?
Also, is it safe to dose your dog with such medicine or should I leave it to the vet? I don't want to overdose them.

I thought I followed up on an update but don't see it, anyway, here it goes again. Angel has improved a lot but what remains is arthritis, deafness and old age! She's confused. Vet suggested I take her to Animal Control and ask if they don't claim her in one week to let me know. At first I didn't want to consider returning her to an owner who did not take care of her but she could be someone's beloved pet. She could have been stolen and dumped. I'm giving her an easy time on her last days. It works both ways as she's given me much joy. Thanks for YOUR caring, Merry Christmas!

Also, when I take him outside in the morning, he thinks it's play time and I have to wait a long time before he does his business and we go back inside. How can i make sure these two issues are resolved quickly while he's still young (Got him from breeder last week, but he's three months old)?

we have this white pit bull and he is about 90% white and has big patches of circles on him and in those circles are brindle. and he mated with a female rotti 2 times and each time there was not one puppy that came out white. all the puppies were either tan, brindle or red. i thought that it was so wierd the only white that they got on them was on the chest and on the paws and a little line between there eyes. has any of ur dogs had puppies that didnt look like any of there parents or had any of the colors? i just thought that it was wierd.

Me and a friend want to travel around Europe (we are from the UK) for a few weeks, possibly hiring a car. I know that I need a 'pet passport' with rabies vaccinations etc. But I want to know what reception you will get in hotels/hostels when you have a small dog. Anybody gone on holiday with a pet before? He travels well and is very cute, but I dont want to stress him out. I want it to be a fun experience for him too. We're thinking of Italy, France, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic and Spain. Any advice? Thanks

People have dreams and nightmares. All of us as soon as we wake up have something to ponder. The question is do dogs have dreams? What do they dream about? Well I guess, we wouldn't know unless you are a dog yourself!

We have an 8 month old half basset hound/half golden retriever. He's cute as can be and I love him very much, but he's driving me crazy! My family is ready to get rid of him, but I've been there telling them no all along, that he'll grow out of it. Well now I'm getting to the point where I feel maybe we should rid of him too and it breaks my heart. I don't want to, but I'm at a loss of how to stop his constant chewing and destroying. I still hold firm my belief that he will eventually grow out of this, but how many more items have to be ruined first? I've made sure he has tons of chew toys. I give him constant attention and love. Whenever I turn my back on him, he's nawing on something. My NEW furniture has bite marks on it. My doc martins are ruined. My daughters MP3 player has been destroyed, my husband's brand new $60 work shoes are shredded to the point that we have to buy new ones again. The list goes on and on... Please help me... I don't know what to do. Thanks!

I was asked to give update on dog I found by side of road. After getting worse, took her to the vet. Turns out she's an old dog, about 10 yrs old and is deaf which I understand is not uncommon among dalmatians. I wish I knew how I could post a pic here. Dr. found no baby heartworms but had hookworms which were giving her diarrhea and compounding the dehydration problem. She was de-wormed and gave her a pill to kill fleas. The second day she started slowly eating soft food and now eats well. :) She is arthritic and her movements are stiff but has started wagging her tail when she sees me <3 . I named her Angel. Angel is confused and gets into corners and can't get out. Yesterday she was on the far side of my garage, on the other side of fishing poles and stored items. She saw me and wanted to come to me but didn't know how to negotiate walking around things so she's clambering through gear, stepping into buckets & such. Sad. Running out of room here. Let me post another.

This is a tough one, he looks like both a Fritz and a Wheezer but I can't decide. The only other name he may suit is Schnapps. I can't make up my mind so please decide for me,, this is driving me nuts. The majority vote wil win this time. Thank you so much.

My dog is a border collie cross, she is really friendly with people but she seems to chase most animals when she gets them in her sight.
By the way she is 5 years old.

I'm interested in adopting a rescued to dog but I have heard so many silly stories about how difficult it is to qualify for one. I'm 18 years old. I live with my parents and 2 brothers. We havn`t moved in over 10 years. What can I say to raise my chances of being qualified? What are some questions I should ask? What are some things I should look at on the dog? What are some things to consider?
