My dog did the same thing. As gross as it sounds, some dogs just like the taste of it. My vet told me to sprinkle some cheyenne pepper on the poop before they have a chance to eat it and it really works! My dog got one bite of it and hasn't touched it since. Just be careful that your dog isn't one of the rare few that actually like the taste of cheyenne pepper, because eating to much of it could make them sick.

An easy "at home" remedy you can try is feeding the puppy pineapple. Not a lot, but a ring or two of canned a day. The smell of his feces will deter him. Pineapple changes the smell, and at the same time will give your pup some extra Vit C. Don't do this forever, but it should help break the habit

Feed the dog the best food you can afford. Don't let the puppy lick children in the face, and make them wash their hands after playing with the puppy. Also you can buy additives at pet smart to put into the pups' food to make him stop. When you take the pup out to go potty put him on a leash and when he tries to eat the poo gently tug the leash and say "NO" very sternly when he stops immediately give him a yummy treat. Yes this is very normal and yes he can get worms from this and give it to children.

It is a normal thing for puppies to eat their own feces and there are a slew of behaviour modification techinques to deal with this. On the web so free.

As for your child, animal feces can carry a slew of bacteria, worms, and a host of other bad things. Being licked on the face by the puppy could pass on these things to your child, so the sooner you break him of the habit, the better.

This is normal for dogs to do this, you need to get a product called deter. This adds vitamines to their diet that they are missing, which is what causes this in the first place, and it has something in it that makes them quit eating their waste. Good Luck and check out the link below for more info on the product!

I always recommend Prozyme for this, it's much easier to sprinkle this into their food than to follow your dog around with cayenne pepper.....Especially with your daughter, you must pick up after your dog or you'll have a serious health problem!
