My dog is a border collie cross, she is really friendly with people but she seems to chase most animals when she gets them in her sight.
By the way she is 5 years old.

I can't believe some the answers you have had to this question, where do these silly people come from??!!
I have a Border Collie, as well as 3 German Shepherds all of which I can walk through a field full of cattle, sheep cows or horses or whatever happens to be around, yes I do live on a farm so I have a bit of a head start in as much as I start Training my dogs right from puppies but my Border Collie I rescued last year and he had never seen anything as he had never been outside, so it took a little bit of hard work on my part if he was to stay with me. I went out 2 or 3 times each day with only him on a lead and walked as close as I could get to all the livestock an if he lunged forward I would 'check' him back on his lead and say LEAVE in a very firm voice! it took about 3 weeks like this but now he can walk calmly off lead through any fields on this farm without chasing anything, it's particularly hard on this type of dog as it is their nature to 'herd' things but you must keep your dog on a lead around livestock if you don't have total control over it, I am never complacent about my dogs and livestock though, if we are walking through a field of sheep I watch them all the time because even a well trained dog can 'slip' up!

Dogs are pricey, you will have to were ready for extenuating occasions like these. It is too late now, so should you cannot have the funds for a trainer then attempt to to find her a dwelling without other dogs or children. Something you do, PLEASE don't abandon her in a refuge. I work at an animal refuge and we just euthanized a attractive Black Lab in these days that an owner surrendered. She loved her loved ones, however her owner didn't want her anymore. The proprietor stated she was once a little iffy with some men and women, turns out her "iffyness" became full blown aggression in the shelter atmosphere. We had to DART her with a dart gun in her kennel to euthanize her, she was too aggressive for someone to control. I realize it's in view that she used to be scared. However when you have even the tiniest of hearts, you are going to not leave your dog to endure that fate. Take her to the vet, or better but have the vet come to you to euthanize her. You created this quandary whether or not you prefer to think you probably did or not, so it is simplest fair that you simply stay with her unless the end. Good luck.

I had the same problem with mine. He just wanted to round everything up. In fact he nearly got us both shot at one day chasing goats (my fault obviously for not getting a grip on him). He just started calming down a lot after he got to six years old, and can now just about walk past horses or cattle without too much fuss (goats and cats are still too much for him). Anyway, the bottom line I guess is that unless you want to take her to serious obedience training classes... then I'm afraid the first answer is correct. Alternatively, which is what I did, find big open spaces with no livestock. Not much help I know, but it’s all in their little Border Collie nature.

dogs are high priced, you need to have been arranged for extenuating circumstances like those. it particularly is too previous due now, so in case you could no longer arise with the money for a coach then attempt to locate her a house with out different dogs or babies. regardless of you do, PLEASE do no longer abandon her in a shelter. Get a shock collar and when she starts to chase an animal, shock her. It sounds cruel, but it is a whole lot less cruel than her possibly running out in front of a car while chasing those animals.

We always seem to want to change animals' nature. Dogs have always chased things, some are stupid enough to chase cars.

Keep it on a lead.
