He did have his stool tested a month ago and it came back neg. But the vet put him on metronidazole for a week just to be sure. But he still has loose stools. He is on high quality Royal Canin puppy food. We did the boiled chicken & rice thing for quite a while. We were thinking of slowly switching him over to another brand. And as far as the pumpkim thing, a lot of websites reccomend it but don't say how much to give...any other thoughts?...

If he is still is having diah and nothing has seemed to work, call your Vet...they may want to do some further testing. Metronidazole is a awesome antibiotic, and the bland diet usually helps too....so, that makes me think something else is going on....dont switch his food, even if you do it gradually....consult your Vet first...you dont want to do anything else that might irritate his stomach/intestines. Good luck!

The vet will tell you the amount when you call them to ask them about the bland diet they will probably want the puppy to be on or whether or not they want the puppy to be fasted for a day to give his system a chance to heal a bit from being irritated.

They'll ask you how long the diarrhea has been. If it's more than 24 hours of watery stool, they might want him to come in to see if he's dehydrated.

A good site for diarrhea in puppies is this:

Well, I wouldn't give him any but I would try Charcoal bones you can buy at a pet store. This helps dogs with sick tummys, and it helps diarreh. You can also try 1/2 a cup of green tea in with his water. Good Luck!

Feed him steamed rice and chicken. I'd stay away from the pumpkin.
