I was asked to give update on dog I found by side of road. After getting worse, took her to the vet. Turns out she's an old dog, about 10 yrs old and is deaf which I understand is not uncommon among dalmatians. I wish I knew how I could post a pic here. Dr. found no baby heartworms but had hookworms which were giving her diarrhea and compounding the dehydration problem. She was de-wormed and gave her a pill to kill fleas. The second day she started slowly eating soft food and now eats well. :) She is arthritic and her movements are stiff but has started wagging her tail when she sees me <3 . I named her Angel. Angel is confused and gets into corners and can't get out. Yesterday she was on the far side of my garage, on the other side of fishing poles and stored items. She saw me and wanted to come to me but didn't know how to negotiate walking around things so she's clambering through gear, stepping into buckets & such. Sad. Running out of room here. Let me post another.

Great job on the rescue!!

For her confusion issues, talk to your vet about Deprynl. It's a medication for older dogs to slow down dymentia.

Good on you, that's just so wonderful and there aren't many people who would have done the same as you did in that situation. Have you posted found posters? (I didn't see your original posting). With the disorientation - it is a little strange so if she's not losing her sight - it could well be dementia as mentioned by another answerer. Another possibility is that she was kept locked up or by a byb and therefore has not had the opportunity to learn how to negotiate these things. Even younger dogs sometimes take a while to learn how to walk backwards and what not. It's so heartwarming that you've rescued her. :)

maybe she's going blind too, my dog is completely blind, constantly stuck in the corner if you get her confused. its something you can live with tho (as can she)

i'm glad you saved this dog tho, it might have been left because of the deafness. as for fleas and worms, thats a fairly easy fix so kudos to you for taking the initiative and saving a life!!!
