Also, when I take him outside in the morning, he thinks it's play time and I have to wait a long time before he does his business and we go back inside. How can i make sure these two issues are resolved quickly while he's still young (Got him from breeder last week, but he's three months old)?

maybe try putting a chain or tie a leesh some where in the yard. Then just put him on the leesh/ chain and let him sniff around his small area. Once there is some of his old droppings there, he will sniff there and probably go again.

Boy dogs are a pain with this!
If you get him fixed at a young age, he should stop doing this to go pee. most dogs do this to go poop, unless your taking them for a walk becuase then they seem to think the sidewalk is the perfect place (bring bags for walks!!!).

Good luck!

Well, I think you should let him choose, but if he MUST go in one location, put him on a leash when he goes out for the first time every day and take him to that location and stay until he does his business. Then praise him. Repeat until he gets the idea. Also, be sure that the area you've selected is either shortly mowed grass or dirt, and an otherwise "desirable" location. If he prefers to go in other areas and its a lawn, you may consider letting the grass grow taller and he won't want to go there.

It's doubtful that you'd be able to get your dog to use the same spot to do his "job" everyday. A couple of possible solutions:

Walk him on a leash until he has become more accustomer to the idea of what he's supposed to be doing out there.

When he does his job, praise him lavishly and give him a training treat occasionally.

Take your coffee with you while he's out for his morning constitutional and have patience.

well it starts with paper training inside and once they are comfortable with paper training inside bring the paper outside to where you want her/him to go then place the paper down and let the puppy do all the work.
