I thought I followed up on an update but don't see it, anyway, here it goes again. Angel has improved a lot but what remains is arthritis, deafness and old age! She's confused. Vet suggested I take her to Animal Control and ask if they don't claim her in one week to let me know. At first I didn't want to consider returning her to an owner who did not take care of her but she could be someone's beloved pet. She could have been stolen and dumped. I'm giving her an easy time on her last days. It works both ways as she's given me much joy. Thanks for YOUR caring, Merry Christmas!

For her arthritis, you could give Angel glucosamine tablets with condroitin. My mom dad and eldest big dog all take them at dinner time every day. They've ALL improved!! Make sure she's sleeping somewhere warm and out of draughts - you might consider getting a heated bed pad for her. Elder dogs love them. You can also give her massages (you can speak with the vet about this, sometimes an animal physio will work with you and teach you how to do this) and accupuncture has been known to help as well. In terms of communicating with a deaf dog, vibrations will do it. Stamp on the floor when you want attention and when she looks at you or comes to you, give her treats. She'll catch on super fast - dalmatians are smart dogs. Good for you, and great for Angel. Merry Christmas!! :)

Glad to hear that she is doing good. I wouldn't return her to Animal Control. I would tell animal control about her and then when/if the original owners come to claim her I would make them pay for her vet expenses you incurred first. That way you will be sure she is going back to a loving home and not a home that didn't take care of her.

If they won't pay; then they probably never took care of her to begin with and probably won't insure regular vet care for her in her olden age.

If they gladly pay to & are geninuely happy to have her been cared for and loved; then you will know that they are good owners and something unfortunate just happened to seperate them.
