I just brought home the cutest little Maltipoo last night. He did great, he pooped outside like he was supposed to and when it was time for bed he went to his crate, laid down and went straight to sleep without the first wimper. I am so proud that I do not have a whiny dog. The question is whenever I try to give him water or food it's like he is scared to put his head in the bowl to eat or drink. So I put a little food on the floor next to his bowl hoping that he would eventually eat out of the bowl, he ate what was on the floor but he didn't eat out of the bowl. He won't even go near the water bowl. Is it because he is in a new situation and quite possibly is just scared and has to get used to things?

My toy poodle is almost two now. We love him and treat him like a baby, so as a result, he acts like the top dog! I know I have to make him more submissive and myself more dominant over him. How can I do this? He listens mostly if I have a treat in my hand. When he barks at other dogs during a walk, how can I show him that I am the boss and not to feel threatened by big dogs? During our walk, he's always sniffing for spots to mark his scent. Should I not let him do this? When he's done something bad, then I'll put him on his back and hold him down for a minute with some firm "No"s. It seems to calm him down for about five mintues and then it's back to him being the spoiled brat. I'm not sure what else to do. He's so cute, it's hard to discipline him, but I know it's something that I have to do. Thanks for your help!

Any good or bad experiences with dog food? I am looking for the best food for high energy longhaired small dogs. I might get one but I want to be completely prepared. Also what all do you need before you take a puppy home?

Hi.

Ellie is 13 weeks now, she is a good little girl, she is house trianed, leash trained, can follow commands and she loves her own space in her pen when we arent around.

I have always wanted to have two boxers and now i own Ellie was wondering if it is a good idea to get her a friend to play with.........
The only problem i have is i work 9am-5pm but my patner comes home to feed Ellie at lunch time and my mum has her from 3.30pm till we get home. Ellie gets loads of attention and comes almost everywhere with us.

Is it a good idea to get her a friend?
Would a male or female be best if i was to get another boxer. I wouldnt want to breed them.........

How do other people get on owning two boxers and having to work???

Advice would be much appreciated...........

Canine ehrlichiosis is a tick-borne disease similar to Lyme's and Permethrin is a non toxic pesticide that I would like to get in order to prevent further occurrences. There is no vaccine for canine ehrlichiosis and she contracted this disease WHILE wearing the Frontline Plus collar. So I want to spray the yard and the inside of my house, but Permethrin is NOT shipped to NY, CT or NJ. Any ideas why??

Any suggestions for alternative non-toxic pesticides??

I read a report from the US Army where it is used often with excellent results.

Hello all,
Another curiosity question. I saw a program on mixed breed dogs and how people are breeding them intentionally, not as a accident. Program said to get the best out of both breeds into one dog.
What happens to the pups that do not have the best of both dogs? Do the breeders put these pups down themselves or take them to a pound to make others do it for them or?
The wolf cross pup who was dumped at our house still is in it's forever home I found for it. Still doing very well! woo hoo!

I have a dog I rescued and he keeps peeing on my desk.I can't leave him without supervision in my house or he makes a beeline for the desk and marks it.I've tried "urine be gone" from local pet store and I am at wits end trying to save the dog and the desk ,too.Is there anything else I can do try using to rid the odor?

Hello! I have an 8 month old, neutered and housetrained Bichon Frise. He never has accidents in our house. However, the last few times we have gone to my husband's family's house for dinner, he immediately runs over to their sofa and poops or pees on it or heads to the bedroom and pees on their bed.
I would really appreciate constructive help on this! Why is my dog doing this?? What can I do to prevent my doggie from doing this in the future? Thanks so much!

i just adopted a puppy yesterday, and i am wondering what the best way to potty train him is?

i got him to pee on a newspaper once, but then he went on the floor a couple of times. i picked him up while he was going and placed him on the newspaper.

also, he's a yorkie/maltese mix. i heard yorkie's are kind of tough to train, so any suggestions would be nice!

ps - to all you smartasses, yes, i know you take him outside to pee. hahaha very funny. and btw - youre welcome for your 2 point sarcastic answer ahead of time.

to the serious people, thanks a bunch :)

I have a female Chug (Chihuahua x Pug) with my male Chi-Chi (Chinese Crested x Chihuahua) who I want to breed! The girl is 1 year old and in heat NOW and the boy is 8 months old.
What is your comments on breeding my babies?
Should I breed them? If not - WHY NOT?!?!?!?!
If I do, HOW MUCH do I sell the puppies for? I need the money to repair my car (needs a new engine, cost $4,500)?

My Chug is named Luci-Mae and and Chi-Chi is named Jacob. I plan on selling the pups for a MINIMUM of $450 - I need all the money I can get!!

Would I be able to create a NEW breed of dog? What breed would my Chug x Chi-Chi be?

I need advice on how to breed. I have never bred anything but my (now dead) cats - Rose and Larry (started breeding 8 months each - both died at 5 years. Had many successful litters from Rose) so am NOT used to breeding dogs.

Thanks to everyone who comments - !!!

From Elaine C.

Our dog destroys property at random, has chewed up (over time) a folding table leg. She destroyed a library book and has messed up 2 purses and other items of value. We cannot leave her home alone for 15 minutes without her finding something to break (sometimes). She constantly poos on the floor and is a royal pain in the butt to walk as he drags any and everyone across the yard... but the much older Beagle we have has gotten used to her. She's also really sweet besides all the things above. The family I live with is strongly against making her an "outside dog".
