Dont worrry about the work thing, its a fact of life...people have to work and dogs cant go with them. It sound like your putting the effort in already so you should be all set. If you going to get another id suggest male, IMO two females can be the most difficult to have get along. One thing to consider when getting another dog, once you have two it can be much more difficult to take them places (freinds houses, parks, etc.) If you do alot out of the house now with your dog you may want to think twice about getting another, but if they basically stay at home and go for walks you should be fine. Good Luck

I have a Boxer! Boxers, at least mine requires a lot of human attention or they can get destructive. If you get a second Boxer, I would say male by the way, you might have 2 destructive forces in the house. Although, it is good that some one gets home for a potty break mid-day, and your mom helps out. Since this is a team effort, I would deffinately discuss it with the team.
Adding a second dog, roughly the same age is fun! I would however suggest puppy play groups, classes and activities. Obedience training is essential for the bouncing Boxer.
Doggy Day care is an option too and a good outlet for socialization and play time for when you are at work.

If you get one, get a male about the same age. They will grow up together and have a blast. You haven't watched such goofiness until you have seen 2 Boxers playing. It seems that Ellie has a break from being alone all day and that is good. I would, however, invest in 2 crates and crate train both of them. Crates are security for any dog and they love going in them once they know what they are for. My Boxers (2 & 4) go in by themselves and take a nap daily. You just have to train them to do crates.
IMO, I would get another but I would have them spayed and neutered when they reach the age that you can. Then you don't have to worry about unwanted puppies.
Good luck.

I have a Boxer that is 5 months old and also an older Beagle. I would be lost if I didn't have a play mate for her. Boxers need constant activity so I would say having a second one would be great. I have read though that it should never be 2 female boxers together, only Male and Female. Ask your vet too. Good Luck!!

you're male boxer must be neutered which will help cut back the aggression. reckoning on how previous the pup is he additionally must be neutered (if it particularly is an adoption dogs). If no longer - maximum older dogs are tolerant of youthful doggies. There are quite a few symptoms and symptoms to look out for: growling, elevating the lip, part long glances, stare downs, ears returned, raised hackles, stiff physique and so on. as quickly as you spot those signs and symptoms you ought to step in and distract him faraway from the pup. reward comfortable habit. consistently doing this could prepare him that the pup isn't a risk and could be welcomed into the kinfolk. consistently self-discipline in spite of age and save up with guidance. exercising lots. A drained dogs is a competent dogs! good success

I own three boxers and my husband and I both work, he is able to stop at home twice a day. I find they make great friends, I like a male/female combo even if you arent breeding. My two females have jealousy issues so get in an occasional tiff, two males may also have an ongoing marking contest in your home. Usually the opposite sex tends not to fight and get along quite well.

We have 2 boxers, they are a year apart, they keep each other company, and they are super dogs. I got the second one which is female, to give my male company, my male is fixed. Boxers need lots of attn, and stimulation, so it helps (I think) for them to have someone to play with. We are planning on breeding her once she is 2 and the vet had done all the genetic testing, so we can have the health guarantee. But I say yes, another boxer is in order.

My female boxer HATES other female dogs, boxer or not. It is a common trait in boxers. If you do decide to get her a companion have it be a younger male.
You don't want to have to do what we do which is keep our two female dogs apart day/night constantly. One is always exiled to the yard if the other is in the house.

Remember that 2 dogs is not just double the work, also double the money (food, vet, kennels, etc). I think if she's settled with you, it would be a good time to get her a companion. As for the sex of the dog, it'll depend on Ellie's preferences! If getting opposite sex, don't forget to get them neutered!

More importantly, can you afford two puppies? They take a lot of care, trips to the vet for vaccines, spay or neutering...what happens if one falls ill and it takes $1200 to fix her? What if one gets parvo and to save her life, you must hospitalize and pay an enormous bill, only to have her not make it?
The expense is the biggest issue when owning more than one dog.
I'm sure the two can be best of friends, if that's what you decide on. :)
