I just brought home the cutest little Maltipoo last night. He did great, he pooped outside like he was supposed to and when it was time for bed he went to his crate, laid down and went straight to sleep without the first wimper. I am so proud that I do not have a whiny dog. The question is whenever I try to give him water or food it's like he is scared to put his head in the bowl to eat or drink. So I put a little food on the floor next to his bowl hoping that he would eventually eat out of the bowl, he ate what was on the floor but he didn't eat out of the bowl. He won't even go near the water bowl. Is it because he is in a new situation and quite possibly is just scared and has to get used to things?

Try using a more shalow dish for him to drink out of.
Many pups prefer eating off the ground at first. They learn to eat from the dish but in the mean time be sure you are getting enough food into him that he is ok.
Since he is small maybe try cat dishes some of them are more flat and not so deep. That may help ease his mind about putting his head in the dish.
Good luck.

most likely it is the new environment. He's in this new place and doesn't have his mommy or brothers and sisters anymore. He might not eat for a day. He might have diahrrea for a couple days. But eventually he will get hungry and thirsty and he will feed out of the bowls (and eventually he still might turn whiney...when he's comfortable with you). One thing you can do is make sure the bowls are small enough for his little face and that his food is meant for puppies. If he doesn't eat for a long time and it starts to scare you, take the cutiepie to the vet and have him checked. Of course, I advise you do that anyway...just to be sure. Good luck and enjoy your new pup!

I have a dog that doesn't eat food in the bowl and puts it on the floor.
She never broke out of that habit but is still a good dog. You can mix some flavor into the water to get him to drink, maybe a little Gatorade.

Perhaps he isn't even weaned yet? Not eating or drinking is extremely dangerous for a small puppy, as they dehydrate quickly. Get him to the vet.

Your pup might not understand that this is his new home. He is under alot of stress right now.
Keep consistent. He'll soon get comfortable and he'll eat and drink normally.
