dogs are social animals, and your puppy is crying for inclusion into the family unit. it will grow up less than emotionally healthy if you keep it locked up.
as for toilet training, that takes time, at least 2 to 4 weeks of constant monitoring. everytime she squats for release, pick her up, talk positively and put her outside. she will stop going as soon as you lift her up, stay with her until she eventually goes and praise her in a really exaggerated way. after a while she will understand your expectations about where to go to the toilet.

its all about consistancy and praise. she will make mistakes, but every dog does, just like human infants. she wont be able to hold on either, so accidents will happen until she matures.

putting in the time now will result in a quicker and easier transition into the rules of your house. please dont leave her as a basement prisoner, find another home for her where she will be part of the family. this is the essential bonding time, as a pup.

make the most of it or do the right thing and find her a better place.

Why would you keep her in the basement?! Surely a pet should be a part of the family, it's no wonder that she is complaining - she needs company, she is lonely and scared.

As for the training, feed her at set times of the day and take her out in the yard 20-30 minutes afterwards and let nature take its course. Make sure that any remaining food is taken away if she hasn't eaten it because if she is allowed to eat throughout the day, she will need the toilet each time she has digested what she has eaten.

Give her loads of praise when she does her toileting outside and you really need to keep an eye on her throughout the day and watch for the tell tale signs that she needs to "go". If she starts to pee or poop in the house make a sound like "ah-ah!" (quite loud) and pick her up immediately and take her outside. Make sure you use a special cleaner to remove any pet odours if she does have an accident in the house because if she can still smell where she has been, she will continue to dirty in the house.

Good luck

When my dog was a puppy we put a ticking watch on a teddy bear for her to snuggle up against. Its comforting reminds them of Mommy's heartbeat. Get a cage for the puppy. In a small enclosure the puppy is more comforted being left in a large COLD basement all by itself is scary. Dogs enjoy their own space just like we do thats why the cage is a great bet. Get one the size of what the puppy will grow into. Block off most of it the smaller the space the more comfort for the puppy. Crate training is the best thing you can do.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMQUj

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

good luck. they have potty papers in the pet store that you can use at night. leave the puppy in the bathroom, with water of course. also you can leave down newspapers. during the day, you need to take her out a half hour after she eats and several times in between. if you don't want to leave her in the bathroom, you should leave her in a room with a gate so she does not run around the house. when she should have an accident put her nose into it and just tell her no. don't hit her because she does not know what that means. just continue to say no. if you are keeping her in your basement and she is crying it is because she is lonely. just like a baby she wants company. spend time with her and show her that she is loved. if you are keeping her in the basement she will think no one cares

hi, you can buy special training mats for puppies (Argos if you life in UK or Ireland) and you can also buy sprays that smell of dog pee from any pet shop. spread out some mats and spray onto them and the puppy will pee there. the idea is to gradually reduce the size of the area where the mats are laid out or even eventually move it outside. soon, you won't need to use the mats as the puppy will be able to smell his own pee & will also use that spot.

also, with regards to the general minding of your puppy - i have rescued dogs from animal shelters before which were also taken from their mothers too young. your puppy is probably very lonely and vunerable right now and the basement might not be the place place for him. he will need lots of affection and you can reintroduce him to the basement for sleeping gradually. or maybe if you have a garden, he might be happier in a little house outside (temperature permitting)

When you say you "keep her in your basement" - are you giving her free rein to go potty wherever she wants? Even tho she's in your basement, you need to limit the area that she's in when she's not supervised.
I've been researching this topic because I'll be getting a puppy in a week, and there's lots of info online. Just key in puppy training, etc. and you'lll get lots of info...

Good luck

Depending on the puppy but give crate training a try.It sounds as if she is not happy in the basement.I myself have just finished with training my puppy and she is doing great.Get a crate big enough for the puppy to lay down in. If to big, you can partition it to fit.Keep her in and only take her out to play with , feed and water. Also potty breaks. It was recommended to also feed her in there and she will understand this is the place you eat and sleep and not mess in. It will take some time and some accidents but in my opinion it really works.............good luck

If you can't be home during the day you have to keep it in a safe place (kennel) when you are not home. When you get home then you take it outside to do it's business. If you are at home with the puppy you keep it on a short leash so you can tell when it starts to look for a place to relieve itself and you immediately take it outside to go. It probably doesn't like the basement either, because it can hear what is going on above it, creaking of floors etc.

Get your self a squirt bottle, usually within 15 min after eating, they will start looking for a spot, when you see it starting to swuat, squirt the in the face, say no and put it out side, it willsoon get the idea....
A great and humane way of teachinga pup not to pee or poop in the house.
Don't run their nose in it , bbecause by the time you find the mess they have no idea why youa re doing it. The key is to catch it before it happens.
