We installed an "invisible fence" and it worked perfectly...for about 2 months. Now he's figured out that if he runs really fast through it, the shock is minimal and worth the freedom. My neighbors are becoming fed up and we cannot afford a traditional fence around our entire property. How can we "retrain" him to respect the boundary???
(Yes, he's had puppy training. Does great with commands unless he is out of the yard...then he just bolts and won't respect commands.)

My dog is a 6 month old Mini Dachshund and he is our pride and joy. He LOVES kids and all other people and is a very sweet and loving dog. He loves other dogs and is very submissive and does not show any sign of aggression. We go to great lengths to see that he is properly socialized with humans and dogs and well trained. He will lick you to death if you let him. The problem is we have never really had him around babies. I had some girlfriends come over tonight and my friend has a 5 month old baby. Buddy was very curious and wanted to smell the baby all over, lick his head and ears, and when we would not let him up on the couch with the baby he would bark. He was so hyper around the baby we put him in his crate. He wasn't trying to hurt him but he was very excited and curious. He is the baby's size and we were nervous he would accidentally scratch the baby or nip his toes where the socks are. Buddy loves socks.

Suggestions for training our dog to deal with babies gently?

This week my girlfriend and I broke up, my old sick dog had to be put down and me and my remaining dog are moving out of state. My dog is so depressed. I just don't know what to do for her. The dog that had to be put down had been with her for all five years of her life. My girlfriend had been with us for two years. She has lost everything but me. Her home, her best friend and her other mom are all gone.

Two days ago my dog was poisoned, I took her to the vet immediately as i noticed that she was getting weaker and weaker, meanign she couldn't walk down the stairs anymore and she refused to urinate, she was just lying there. so i took her to the vet, who diagnosed with the poisoning. she gave my dog two injections, one two relief her muscles and one to make her sleep. She said it would last for only 8 hours and my dog would be fine. But she's been lying on the couch since then. I tried putting her on the floor so she could walk but it turned out she couldn't move her back legs. I went to the vet again, who suggested to give her glucose every 3 hours, she said the in jections last longer in weaker dogs and the glucose would giver her strength. However, she also mentioned that this may not be due the medication but to the poison itself. I'm really worried right now. What should I do? Should i just swith to another vet? Is my dog going to be ok? Please help.

Hi - My mother's newfi has been seriously ill since a week after she got spayed. The doctors are testing for several serious illnesses but i can't help but wonder if it has to do with the surgery. She has an enlarged esophagous and has a hard time walking and keeping her food down. Any one else have that experience?

She had her first heat a year ago and she hasn't had a noticable one since, so I assume she has silent heats, but then how do I know when she IS in heat? I live in the country and there's not alot of male dogs to hang around, so that won't let me know...

I know I'm gonna get a bunch of mean answers telling me not to breed my dog (I've read some other questions) but I'm not trying to make money, I got my rat terrier two years ago and she has such a great personality that everybody in my family wants one of her babies now. I know all about animal shelters too.

My boyfriend has played w/this Rat Terrier for a few days and I just saw him last night. I brought him in and have kept him w/my dogs (they get along great) but he's sick. He has liquid coming out of his eye, a scab w/green stuff coming out of it and a green puss coming out of his "wee-wee". An antibiotic would take care of this right? But which one? I can't afford to take him to the vet but I want him to be healthy so I can find another home for him.

My chihuahua had pups 3 weeks ago, we have them in a warm crate, away from drafts and foot traffic. We have been finding pups all over! We thought they were getting out on their own, but this evening I found one on my bed. Why is is moving them around, and what is the best way to stop her? I would hate to think one might fall off the bed or get somewhere unsafe. Thanks!

My son who is 10 wants to start a dog walking business. We live in a large apartment complex and many of our neighbors have dogs and busy lives. He figured he could make some money with a few strategically placed signs, but we don't know what the rate should be. Any ideas?

I brought my dog to a newly opened dog park, and he barked as another dog coming through the fence, I was asked to leave because this is "aggressive behavoir" , so I came back the next week and my dog went to snif a smaller dogs butt and the owners freaked, whipped up their dog by the collar and grabed a hold of my leash and said to take control of my dog.. huh? just recently my son took our dog for a walk and the lady accross the street, yes ACROSS the street, said "get your dog away from me!"
what is wrong with people?? is it somthing im doing wrong? or are these people wimpy asses?

I just took my KCS to the vet after getting some advice here thank you to all that helped me. Any way the vet said that it looks like heart failure and she has a heart memor. This morning she got out of bed and collapse and was breathing really hard. She also then later had a fit. the vet said she has to stay in hospital and they need to do an x-ray and ultrasound she told me that there is medication but really expensive and it may not work. everybody is saying just put her down.the vet said she is not in pain but its very stressfull on her. What are the changes the medication will work or should we just put her down. I am still waiting for the test results. here is my first post so you can remember.

I have a KCS that is about 8 years old. the past week or two she has been making

this funny noise. its sounds like she is choking but almost like a cough.

it is not loud but a throat
sound. she sits up and puts her head foward like she is

trying to remove somthing from her throat but she was not eating at the time if

any thing she was sleeping (whats new she is a cav) any body know what this may be.

please some advice

Two doors up from me, live a family who allow their dog to bark day and night (often at nothing and for no reason). The ruddy thing has just woken me up again at 4.10am - IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE!! Other neighbours have complained to them, but they don't do anything about the dog.
It even spent almost half an hour barking (constantly) while it's owner was standing beside it watering the garden at 8.30pm when I was trying to get my kids to sleep.
I own dogs and control their barking - why can't they????????
