Two days ago my dog was poisoned, I took her to the vet immediately as i noticed that she was getting weaker and weaker, meanign she couldn't walk down the stairs anymore and she refused to urinate, she was just lying there. so i took her to the vet, who diagnosed with the poisoning. she gave my dog two injections, one two relief her muscles and one to make her sleep. She said it would last for only 8 hours and my dog would be fine. But she's been lying on the couch since then. I tried putting her on the floor so she could walk but it turned out she couldn't move her back legs. I went to the vet again, who suggested to give her glucose every 3 hours, she said the in jections last longer in weaker dogs and the glucose would giver her strength. However, she also mentioned that this may not be due the medication but to the poison itself. I'm really worried right now. What should I do? Should i just swith to another vet? Is my dog going to be ok? Please help.

I am not going to give you false hope and I am not going to be negative either. Some poisons just don't leave the blood stream in animals any more then in humans. Providing she doesn't get any better by this weekend and of course hopefully she's not getting any worse. Take her to a different vet or if you trust this vet then take her back let the vet make the best decission. I only hope that she pulls out of it. Ask your vet about Charcoal and eggs. Mine didn't make it only because I didn't catch it in time. My vet said next time raw eggs and suggested charcoal. Under no means are you to administer this to your pet without consulting your vet or asking how to do it or how much. You could hurt her more then help her at this point with this remedy. Please let me know how your dog is. In the meantime use the glucose as your vet recomended. It may take some time to draw the poison out to where she is not so weak. I hope all is well with you and your dog. You are in my prayers tonight.

I would not wait it out. It seems that the dog is already getting worse, not better. If the medications were working there would be some signs of improvement. If I were you, I would call a different vet. If it is after hours, see if there is an emergency clinic that you can go to, or just start calling out of the phone book until you can find one that will see animals after hours. It may cost a little more, but may be worth it in this case.

Good Luck!

If your dog is still alive after 2 days, there is a good chance that it will be ok. Whether or not it will regain the use of its legs is questionable. Do you know what it was poisoned with?

If you have any doubts, please take the dog back to the vet, or to another vet.

Good luck and God bless you,

Cal-el

Go to another vet and get a second opinion. If I got poisoned and couldn't move my legs and a doctor gave shots and told me to go home and wait it out and nothing happened, I'd be pissed and go to the hospital. If the vet isn't sure whats causing the paralysis, go to someone else. Better safe than sorry.

Take the dog to another vet. Did the doctor pinch it's back legs, if not I would pinch them and see if it looks at you. My dog Lucky the recently passed away was paralyzed in his back legs, it's not fun. Go get a second opinion. Also if it's legs end up being paralyzed, check out www.handicappedpets.com, and dodgerslist on yahoo groups. Make sure your dog drinks plenty of water. And hopefully you can get it to eat too,

Remember plenty of water!

Get a second opinion! Make sure you have a record of all the treatments performed by your current vet and take the dog to see another vet ASAP.

Not knowing which poison your dog ate, - or which meds the vet used - I can't answer as to whether the inability to move the hind legs are due to the poison or the meds.
If it were my dog I would go to an animal hospital were they, if needed, can hospitalize the dog for observation and intensive care.
and demand some straight answers.

I WOULD GIVE HER A WHILE TO LET HER REST AND GET HER STRENGHT BACK AND TRY GIVING HER A FOOD MADE JUST FOR HER BREED DOING THAT WILL GIVE HER ALL THE VITAMS AND SUCH SHE NEEDS AND MAY HELP
