My boyfriend has played w/this Rat Terrier for a few days and I just saw him last night. I brought him in and have kept him w/my dogs (they get along great) but he's sick. He has liquid coming out of his eye, a scab w/green stuff coming out of it and a green puss coming out of his "wee-wee". An antibiotic would take care of this right? But which one? I can't afford to take him to the vet but I want him to be healthy so I can find another home for him.

There aren't any over the counter antibiotics that would be safe. Eye infections need eye medications, and it depends on whether he has an eye ulcer or not. The green stuff from his "wee-wee" can be normal in a male dog. Call the Humane Socitey or S.P.C.A and see if they can help you treat him and find him a home. His problems could be simple or quite serious. Can't tell without a proper exam!

First of all I'd keep him away from your healthy dogs. I have always heard anything green coming from the body is a sign of infection. I *believe* infections can only be cured with antibiotics. This dog really needs to see a vet and if that's not possible, take him to a no-kill shelter where they can take care of him medically. I think you're a very kind person to take this dog in but he needs more help than you can give him. :)

There aren't over-the -counter antibiotics, and you will need more than one to take care of this. They need veterinary attention right away! The best thing to do is to turn him over to a shelter, as they will get the dog treated by a vet and find it a good home. Contact the Humane Society or the SPCA closest to you. They can get him treated and also keep him in a no-kill shelter. You are not doing this dog any favors taking it in, as you can not properly care for it. Turn it over to someone who can, or it is neglect.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO..................Take the dog to the vet......it needs more then you cna give it. Antibiotics aren't that expensive. it needs help.....And Keep It AWAY from your dogs.......... Your vet will make payment arrangements with you. I know it seems like an unwanted expense, but if you want to help him....Take Him.....trust me on this....I gave my cat extra strenght tylenol for a bad tooth and it just about killed her. only cat my local vet had ever been able to save from giving it human medications. Their bodies and organs are not set up like ours...you will kill it if you give it our meds. And it will suffer more if you give it human meds. Take it to the vet
