I brought my dog to a newly opened dog park, and he barked as another dog coming through the fence, I was asked to leave because this is "aggressive behavoir" , so I came back the next week and my dog went to snif a smaller dogs butt and the owners freaked, whipped up their dog by the collar and grabed a hold of my leash and said to take control of my dog.. huh? just recently my son took our dog for a walk and the lady accross the street, yes ACROSS the street, said "get your dog away from me!"
what is wrong with people?? is it somthing im doing wrong? or are these people wimpy asses?

I think the people at your dog park don't quite understand what a dog park is. They would be really shocked to go someplace that has had one for years and see how layed back the owners are.

As to the lady across the street she just crazy lol. People are getting crabbier and crabbier.

Some people just don't like dogs and/or are over protective of their own dog. Even at a dog park it just polite to ask if you're larger dog can interact with smaller ones. Maybe the smaller one is prone to start the fights? You have to respect other people. If someone didn't like heights would you force them on a plane with you? An extreme analogy, but still, it's the same concept. You know you're dog is fine and won't hurt anyone but that other person doesn't, and you telling them your dog is fine doesn't really mean much to them if they don't know it for sure. It sucks being a dog lover and wanting everyone to except your dog, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. I have the same problem with my dog where I live. People perceive "aggressive behavior" as different things. It's just something you as a responsible dog owner have to respect about other people and other dog owners...but it's probably nothing you're doing wrong per say.....

You got it on the last line. I know exactly what you mean. I ran through the same problems with three of my Labs. They think they are the welcoming committee at dog parks. Other dog owners think they own the damn park. And they have the best trained dogs in the world. Tell the lady across the street to BITE ME!! no not you - ME!!

BTW - what kind of dog do you have? Maybe they don't like the breed.

well it does not sound like you are doing anything wrong...it is not a pit bull or a dangerous dog is it...i guess that some people are just really concious since so many incidents has happened concerning dogs...but if a dog barking is aggressive behavior then about all dogs are going to be considered aggressive...so i do not know what to say about that... just make sure your dog has all his shots and you keep him on the leash when he is out in public and hopefully they will get use to being with other dogs in the park.....there is a lady downstairs that is so over protective of her minature min pin and the woman thinks her butt is made of gold anyway....well i just do not like her at all...she acts like every other dog around here is garbage to her dog...so i can not tell you except what i have seen and heard but people are just getting so ridiculous about so many things anymore....

Has your dog every been in doggy school, where they teach obedience? Maybe the people you are encountering are aftaid of dogs due to a bad experience. This tends to be the case when people seem to back away from a dog. If he is a Lab Shep mix then the Shep in him is just being a watch dog and letting you know of other dogs. Sometimes especially if they encounter a dog of the same sex they will bark. Male dogs don't want any other male doga around because of the territory issue. I hoe this helps.

It depends on what type of dog you have. I have a rotti and I get the same reactions from people. When I'm in the pet store, people yank their kids away from me or their dogs and give me dirty looks. You are doing nothing wrong. If your dog was super aggressive and was trying to attack these people and other animals, then you'd have a problem. But it seems that this isn't the case. It may just be your breed of dog....

What sort of dog do you have and what sort of leash do you use? If you have one of those retractable leashes, ditch it. Get a REAL one that will give you true control over your dog. If you have a dog such as a Pit Bull, Rottie or Dobie, I can see why those people reacted the way they did...except for the Lady Across the Street...she's weird.

some people are so uptight, I would ignore the lady across the street but at the dog park dont the people know that when dogs sniff butts they are greeting and getting to know eachother, I have a Chihuahua and he goes to all people and dogs to say hi, he has been greeted by a mastiff and I didnt freak but just watched and they were cool. people just need to relax. next time you take your dog to the dog park and your god sniffs a little dogs butt and the owners freak just tell them to watch Ceasar Milian

it may be the size of your dog. if it is a large dog, it may just scare people. And if they sence you aren't taking proper action with it, they may not like it. usually people want their dogs to stay with them and to them selves. try keeping him closer to you when walking him and if your child is smaller then they may be frightened the child could not retain the dog from attacing them. people just have fears of certain things and dogs are one of them. keep him on a short leash close to your side and train him. and look over people. They think their dogs are perfect......
