My son who is 10 wants to start a dog walking business. We live in a large apartment complex and many of our neighbors have dogs and busy lives. He figured he could make some money with a few strategically placed signs, but we don't know what the rate should be. Any ideas?

We live in Nashville, TN. And as for the length of time, we were thinking 15-30 minutes.

Depends on where you live. In NYC it's at least 10 - 15 bucks per walk. When I lived in DC some kids charged 5 - 10 depending on length of time.

i'd say $5 per day for an hour or about $20 a week if he does it say 5 days a week for the same pup. That's a lot of poop though if he gets too many at once!. He could have some cute signs too that maybe he could get copied and put in the mailboxes or on the door knobs..." i love dogs, lemme love yours too"

Dog walking is pretty serious. Small dogs you can take on short walks, but larger dogs need to go a couple miles at least to really get exercise.

I wouldn't recommend he walk more than one dog at a time and no dog he can't control completely. If he gets rushed by a loose dog, he could get hurt and so could the dogs.

Something to think about.

Well... if he's 10, you don't want to be greedy... I guess a reasonable walk is about half an hour for someone his age, so i'd be going... $10...? You don't want it to be too dear or people will just do it themselves, but you want it to be worth his while... yeah, i'd be going $7 - $10. Good on him, he'll be an entrepeneur for sure!

It probably depends on where you live. In San Francisco, I'm used to paying $20 per hour.
