My chihuahua had pups 3 weeks ago, we have them in a warm crate, away from drafts and foot traffic. We have been finding pups all over! We thought they were getting out on their own, but this evening I found one on my bed. Why is is moving them around, and what is the best way to stop her? I would hate to think one might fall off the bed or get somewhere unsafe. Thanks!

She isn't putting them in the same place either, one on the bed, two in the hall one under my son's crib...

Something is upsetting the mother dog and she is trying to find a safe place for her babies. Provide a quiet, out of the way place where she will be comfortable.

well i have noticed this about dogs....but they usually try to find a comfortable place away from people....i have never heard of a dog putting her pups on a bed..and usually she moves them one at a time but she moves them all to one place...i do not know what goes on in a dogs head...but i know she does not want them around a lot of people....chihuahuas are so cute puppies though and i use to have a couple ....i wish i had one now but i do not...i really do not know anyway to stop her unless you can put them all in one room where they can not get out of....i have also heard this if a mother dog thinks there is something wrong with one of her pups then she will not let it eat or keeps it away from the others...why they do this i do not know...

She isn't happy with them where they are. She is probably hot if you have her in a wrm crate with pups.... also, she may be wanting them closer to you....Did she sleep with you before the pups were born...If so, she is just wanting herself and pups to be with you. That is very normal....Also animals like it where it is quiet and not many people around. Maybe she thinks it is to dangerous for them where they are. just watch her, because by picking them up she can cut their skin. My cocker accidently slit one of her pups necks by trying to move it.

if she keeps taking them to the same spot over and over, then move her crate to that spot. She is not comfortable where you have them, and will continue to move them. If she is used to being around you, then move them in the room where you are at the most. They will start moving around on their own anyway, and will start walking soon if they haven't already...

If you can make her a new box. It may just be time for her to move. In the wild dogs did this to get away from their dirty dens and fleas.
Maybe it's too warm for her now that they are a little older.

She might think people are bothering the pups too much and is trying to hide them.

My mom used to raise chihuahua puppies and she said the reason why is because you're picking them up too much, and you dog keeps moving them because she doesnt want you to touch them. I guess shes trying to protect them because they are still little. Hope that helps.
