I'm working on training my dog to stay in his own yard. As long as he is supervised and not vicious, does he need to be on a leash outside with me, when we are just in my yard?

Don't they realize that this is a baby animal, with less intelligence than most people?
The dog's first language is 'whine-whine, growl, woof-woof' they have a whole new language to learn, and a whole new set of rules.

Even more puzzling is the people who think they will learn everything without any training.

Our large male german shepard likes to jump the fence everytime he goes out and when we are not looking. I am afraid he will jump out and get hit by a car. Any budget friendly solutions? Thanks!

My dog ran away this morning. He has a microchip and I called the company to locate him. Have you ever had this happen and how effective is the chip in helping to locate the animal?
Also, I called the county shelter and they said they are backed up due to the holiday so if I don't hear anything to come down and look for him. I don't want someone else to adopt my dog!
What should I do?? Does the chip work? The chip company is AVID.

My friend's dog had puppies, and she was woundering how long after having puppies will she come back into heat? Is is 6 months from having puppies, or 6 months from her last heat still? Also her other dog had lice, and lost alot of hair, and shes been treated a few times, but the hair on her belly hasnt grown back yet, will it grow back or not? The vet didnt seem to concerned when she had her shots. Any help would be great, and ill forward her the answers as she doesnt have internet access. Thanks

Or do they think they are children of people and will someday become people themselves? There are other possibilities as well.

I am not a big dog person. I am a stay at home mom with a 3 1/2 year old and a 15 mos old. My husband and oldest really want a dog. I don't want another being to clean up after and potty train. But, I know that there is a special bond between a "boy and his dog" so I'm willing to get one. However, I want to find one that is great with kids, doesn't shed much or at all (is that possible?), isn't too big and is easily trained and house broken.

Suggestions?
