Leather all the way. My husband and I bought a beautiful micro-suede couch last year and because it is so hard to keep clean I already want a new one. So next time I will buy leather, really easy maintenance.

Since you have pets you need a fabric that you can clean. There are some good fabrics that have scotch guard on them that will let you wipe them off, but for serious cleaning you really should get a soft leather. Just make sure to keep their nails trimmed or you will end up with scratches in the leather.

My couch has a corduroy texture of fabric, not leather. It's very durable and the covers come off for an occasional washing. It's great.

My vote would be leather as well -- IF -- you aren't concerned about nail scratches.

If you don't like bad odors, why do you have Shih Tzu? Seems to me a short-haired breed would be more in order.

I would also suggest leather. If you buy the proper care products and use them correctly, it will look and feel new for a long time. You won't have to worry about odors or stains penetrating and it looks great!

Good luck :)

Leather?

Leather, faux suede (durable and washable), or slipcovered furniture. Febreeze works really well, but if they like to rub their faces on the furniture the faux suede wipes up like new.
