pull them off with a pair of tweezers, then clean the area with rubbing alcohol. Might want to give him a bath to and get him some front line to keep fleas and ticks off him. Many vets will sell this to you without you actually bringing the dog to the vet. good luck!

You need to use a good solid pair of tweezers if you don't have a tick remover. You need to grip it as near to the dogs skin as possible without pinching the woofer ! Make sure you have a firm grip of it as you don't want to squish it. You should then pull it out with one swift movement.
Make sure to get the whole head and all it's legs out otherwise the area will become infected and then you will HAVE to go to the vets. I always give it a squirt with an antibacterial spray or a bit of antibacterial cream - the ones specially for animals - just to reduce the risk of infection as much as possible.
If you find one tick always check the whole dog over as there will probably be more than one.
Find tick removers at http://www.ourpetshop.co.uk/Training/TickRemoval.htm or on ebay !
You can also get Tick drops which are just like the ones you get for fleas.

Grab a hold of the tick, twist counter clockwise and pull. Guaranteed to work. I do it all the time. Or you can try all the other methods that don't work like burning the butt end of it with a lighter, flea and tick shampoo. There is no reason to take your dog to the vet over a tick. Even if you didn't pull it out the tick would die eventually. Don't be chicken just rip it out!!! You can do it with tweezers if you really don't want to touch it.

Tweezers, not burning, as many people believe is the best way. I recommend searching on Ask.com. Use the keywords tick removal. There will be lots of sites. Also, save the tick if you can. If your dog gets sick it may be used for testing to make sure your dog did not get a serious disease from the tick. Also, that will help you identify what type of tick it is. Some ticks are more likely to carry diseases such as Lyme disease. If your dog did get sick, your vet will probably want to see the tick to help him/her make a proper diagnoses.
hope this helps.

Your vet can show you how to do it properly, there is no good reason for not going. You need to get a tick tool, otherwise you risk leaving the head behind in the skin or the tick lying somewhere on your carpet. Get the vet to show you how to use the tick tool, it'll cost about £5 altogether.
The second method is to coat the tick with vegetable oil but it will fall off somewhere in your house. It may end up back on your dog.

Get someone who you and the dog trust to hold him, then gently but firmly pull it out with a pair of tweesers, making sure you get it all, the head (The feeding bit) is often left inside without realising it, so finish off with alcohol - no not given to the dog or yourself!! but applied directly to the part you have just treated. If you are still worried, take dog to vet or get another friend that has a dog check him out for you. Avoid very long grass as Ticks are common!! Best wishes!!

People say to get a match, light it, blow it out, then sit the match on the tic. THIS DOES NOT WORK! The tic will feel the heat from the match and end up attaching to the dog even harder.

Your best bet is to get a pair of tweezers. Grab the tick as close to it's head as possible and pull. Don't pull to hard just pull with enough force. Then check the area and make sure that you didn't separate the head from the body.

Good luck!

you need to stun the tick, you can do this with nail varnish remover, put the remover right on the skin between the tick and dog, don't just pull the tick out you will end up leaving the head in your dog and it will still be able to suck the blood, after you have removed it go to your vet and get front line drops for dogs, the spray is good but doesn't last as long...good luck..

Everyone has a good way of getting them out but in my opinion I would not simply pull it out as it can leave the head of the tick in place leaving it to get infected then you have to go to the vets anyway..

I would ether cover it clear nail varnish or nail varnish remover and wait until it become loose. Sometimes they just fall off other times you still need to pick them off with tweezers.. Only if you are picking them off be careful not to leave an behind.. Nasty little things arnt they.. 9Make sure you get rid of it well the toilet idea sounds best to me) I would recommend also bathing your dog in a flea and tick bath solution afterwards in case of reinfection..
Hope this helps Michelle from England

I wouldn't try to get it out by myself unless you go to the vets to buy a gadget to remove the tick, they will also show how to use it properly. Definitely don't use a tweezers as you'll probably not be able to remove all of the tick in this way.
