Our large male german shepard likes to jump the fence everytime he goes out and when we are not looking. I am afraid he will jump out and get hit by a car. Any budget friendly solutions? Thanks!

Get a tie out. You stake them into the ground and tie him to it. Just make sure that it is far enough away from the fence that if he did try to jump it he would not hang himself.

get a higher fence. our neighbors across the street have the same issue with their german shep, except that he jumps over b/c there's a weak section of fence that he bends down and fumbles over. the funny part is watching him fumble over it to get back in! i worry he may cut himself on the chain link, but alas, he's not my dog and i can't say too much (they aren't the kind to care either:(

so, i would recommend either a higher fence or some training classes. we have our lab puppy in training class at petsmart and it's the best thing!! we have learned soo much and so has he! i'm sure if there's a petsmart in your area the trainers there could even give you some free tips. my trainer gave me some free advice one day and it worked like a charm...that's what really sold me on the classes, which, like i said are soooo helpful and fun too!

good luck!

EDIT:
the invisible fence is a great idea too! just be sure to monitor you dog for a bit with it, b/c i've known plenty of dogs to just run right through it! they are usually retrievers, though. they get that one-track mind going! my sister's dog is mainly german shep and she did really well with the invisible fence.

is he neutered? that maybe the problem. there alot of complications from his escapes! maybe try a higher fence, a sonic collar(they have ones that are humane)or a tether in the yard so he can still have freedom but to the length you wish or even a kennel in the back yard. what ever the solution better do it fast!

you shoot it jk no really you jsut get a electric fence invisable fence just a wire buried under ground theen your dog has a collar with two prongs that tough its neck. when it goes past the boundaries it automaticly gets a shock you can set the shock at differnet levels of power depending on the type of dog and how stuborne it is

I think you need a bigger fence. Some people might suggest an electric "invisible" fence but I think you need the good old fashioned type.

I know lots of people who bought invisible fences and said that it worked wonders. The dog tried to get past it once and never tried again. Then you can just turn it off. Your dog won't try it again. Unfortunately they are about $1000.00.

electric fence, low voltage. sharp things on the top of the fence. or just get a taller fence. i had a neighbor with the same problem. he just got a big fence and covered it with tall bushes.

Take your dog to obedience class and train him not to jump the fence.

either get a higher fence(the humane option)
or break its legs(not so much, but it solves the problem, although i would never do this and don't think you should, you should expect this kind of thing when asking the world to answer you questions)
