Dogs may think that they are people. More accurately, they probably think people are dogs. Either way, I don't expect that a dog has any way of even thinking that they might "grow up" to be people.
As far as your "superdogs" statement, that might be closer to the truth. Like almost all canines, dogs are pack animals and every pack will develop a leader. Scientists call this leader the "Alpha." A dog that is part of a human family houshold must recognize the humans as closer to the Alpha than the dog. The dog must see itself as the bottom of the pecking order or it will display what we see as "behavioral" problems. To the dog, this is not a problem. He is just behaving naturally. When the dog finally recognizes his place in the hierarchy, then he can be very happy.

i totally agree with the people that say dogs think they are human. my dachshund also thinks he is a person. only cause we treat him like one. He is like my "son" since i do not have kids. He sleeps between his mommy and daddy and is sooo spoiled. even when he hears the keys, he runs to the car and jumps and sits right in the middle.
as for humans as superdogs. hey, maybe. who knows. we would love to play and stay home all and be spoiled like a dog lol. well some dogs anyway.

Dogs know that they are dogs, and don't wish to be people. If my dog wished to be a person, she wouldn't take off into the fields to rub herself all over with manure so much.
But they do recognize themselves as part of the family. When one of my kids calls "mommy" - she looks to see where I am. She knows all of our names. When I tell her to go by one of the kids, she knows who to go to. She is treated like a member of the family - we celebrate her birthday, give her a present on xmas, give her love & attention, take her to the doctor when she needs to go - because she's my dog and I care for her. But, because she is a dog - she doesn't sit at the table when it's time for dinner, she stays on the floor. She's not allowed in the living room, because there's new furniture in there. She knows she's a dog and not a person.

I believe that dogs think that they are people. I had a terrier for 11 years and I know that she thought that she was a people. I now have a dachshund and she thinks that she's a people too so I can only conclude that dogs think that they are people.
