Okay, so you're telling me... toys are most unhealthy? So why is it that they say smaller dogs live longer? Gotcha.

Also, that wasn't my breeder. I saw it on a website so I looked it up and saw that i got no answers, except from YOU. And no, may I say I have one of the best more expensive breeders in all of Ohio. Yes. So there. Everyone takes everybody so seriously on this site! JUST SHUT UP.

Also, I'm not getting the dog because I think it's cute. I've spend 3 years researching it and my parents made i deal that i can get one next summer. My neighbor has one and she is a very healthy happy dog at almost 2 years old.

And the other guy? You said not to get a toy because it's ugly, but then you said not to just get a dog because it's cute. Let's face it, you don't know what you're talking about! Also, this proves how much you know about dogs because 5 other answerers say they don't exist. And I'm getting a Miniature Schnauzer and that's final. They all look different and personally, I think they're cute. I'm not gonna get a pit bull or something cause those dog look like crap (no offense for anyone who has one) and I hate them. I DO want my dog to be cute. And it's my choice. I can get a cute dog and healthy dog for 1,000 $ so thank YOU. ha.

"Toy miniature" schnauzers do not exist. If someone is deliberately breeding Miniature Schnauzers to be smaller than they already are and then peddling them as "toy" schnauzers, they are unethical, money-hungry morons.

Perhaps you are simply incorrectly referring to the Miniature Schnauzer as a "toy miniature"? I'm not sure what you mean by a "normal one", unless you're talking about a Standard Schnauzer.

If you aren't, and you really are looking for this so-called "toy miniature schnauzer" (which is redundant in addition to being unethical), then...

Be aware that breeding for any one trait (i.e. size) to the exclusion of all others is the fastest way to create and/or perpetuate health problems. Also be aware that breeding a larger dog "down" in size on purpose tends to create structural problems. These can be eliminated over time with careful breeding, but I doubt that anyone purposely creating a "toy" schnauzer is careful about breeding.

If you are simply referring to Miniature Schnauzers, then they, like any breed, have their share of genetic problems (see this link http://amsc.us/health.html for more info). Going to a responsible breeder who screens for these problems and does not breed affected animals will help reduce the chance of getting an unhealthy puppy.

Good luck!

Go with a mini. They are great dogs and very sturdy. Breed standard for mini's is between 10-15 pounds, although many minis are around 20 pounds. Minis are great lap dogs and are usually good with children.

I saw 2 "toy schnauzers" last year at the Portland Miniature Schnauzer Walk (www.pmsc2.org) and I thought they were very ugly dogs. they looked like chihuahuas--big buggy eyes with schnauzer coloring and hair cuts.

Don't get one. It's not a breed standard and you have no idea what you're getting.

Before you get ANY dog, you should do some research into the breed. Don't get a dog on impulse or because you think it's cute. It's a living being and needs love and care. My mom has 3 minis that are all rescues from people who got the dogs and were either unaware of the breed or no longer wanted/had time for the dogs.

Toy Schnauzers

Toy schnauzers do exist, they are just not show quality or approved by the AKC, same with teacup poodles, they exist but not recognized by the AKC as an actual breed.
As with any dog, the smaller you get the less healthy they are. Their immune systems don't work as well as the larger dogs. So a minuature schnauzer is going to be healthier than a toy. Something happens when you breed them down.

i have a miniature their are smaller miniature their really are no toy schnauzers unless it is being cross bred with another breed then your not getting a full blooded schnauzer.

as for schnauzers they are a wonderful breed very healthy my last schnauzer lived to be over 14 years old my current is on 9 will be 10 in Oct and has passed every vet health check and he just had one.

they don't shed but do need to be groomed, you can have their ears docked or left long but with any long ear dog that has hair growing in it you do fine ear problems my last schnauzer i did not crop his ears and we did have lots of vet bills because he had ear problems and when drake was 8 week old he had an ear infection so i cropped his only reason i did it because i would never do it other than for health reason.

but in general they are really healthy but really i think health also has to do with the owner i brush my dogs teeth, I keep drake groomed and my others they are short haired so i don't need to with them but i do keep them slicked i was them and i don't buy cheap dog food and i make natural dog biscuits for them meaning i don't buy them i make them with 100% natural ingredients

good luck on your hunting hope you find the right one and have many years of love.
the picture you see is my drake handsome guy LOL

I have short curly hair for the first time since I was 10 years old and We really like it but I skip my long curly locks so I'm growing it back out!

It's all just a matter of personal preference. I actually have short hair and guys such as it. And i prefer a man with short hair over a man with long hair because long hair tends to make guys look as well girly.

There's NO SUCH THING!!! Go read the breed standard at the AKC site. Says it ALL including SIZE!!

If somebody is trying to peddle one.....they're LYING!
