Chihuahuas are simple to train, depending on what you wanna train them at. I trained mine to go into the bathroom and go pee cause I didn't want them to do it on the carpet. It took a lot of work, but I would smack them on the nose and put them in the bathroom after they would do it on the carpet. They learned eventually that this was the place they were supposed to go because they wouldn't be punished if they did it there. Now, I leave them out and they go in the bathroom when they need to.

As for chewing and scratching furniture or carpet, a smack on the nose will do. I usually call their name when they do it and give them a disapproving look--dogs can usually read expressions and stop in their tracks. If not, that's where the smack on the nose comes into play.

Rewards are always good for good behavior. Doggie treats, or just simply a smile and a good scratch.

Chihuahuas are loveable dogs, and they're pretty easy to train.

I have had a chihuhua and love him. The way I punished him was not by hitting him but with a squirt bottle.. Whenever he was in the middle of doing something bad I would squirt him. This has worked very well

its ok to use treats in moderation. a pet knows by the tone of your voice alone, without getting loud, if you are upset with it. a small squirt water bottle or clapping of your hands if you catch them in the act of doing something naughty can deter them as well.
Some small dogs can even be trained to use a litter box like a cat. can start at any age for training in basic commands. no more than 10-15 minutes at a time generally until they get older.

as a Chihuahua owner, I can tell you they are very smart dogs & learn quickly... just use treats at the beginning and they will do they tricks you teach them eventullay without one...
do not hit you pet, one reader told you she hits her dog on the nose how would you like a smack on the nose..just sternly say NO they will learn what this word means lots of patience when training any kind of dog is needed .. so be patient & it will all come together in the end

good luck...

chihuahuas are hard but alot of times just a firm voice( but not to loud!) will help.they really just want love so lots of affection is the best reward for chi's. discipline has to be somewhat gentle you dont want a dog that cowars all the time or hand shy since that can contribute to biting.be patient and consistent and she should learn in a healthy way. as far as treats they love chicken!!!
