Cats - June 2007

I have a year old cat and have had an old friend move in with two 10-year-old cats. They are in the spare bedroom & it has been about a 1 1/2 weeks. My cat didn't like it and would even attack the owner of the two cats. He seems to have lessoned the number of "attacks" on her and seems to have started to "talk" to the other cats through the door. He has cat herpes which is a respiratory thing for cats. It is contagious to other cats. Vet says that 98% of cats have it, just don't show symptoms like my cat. He sneezes and gets one runny eye and a respiratory infection. She is fully aware of this and the vet says their immune systems should be up enough to be ok. My cat has kidney problems from the bad food, but is doing better. Vet says that is why he is more apt to show symptoms. He also has or has had heart worms which are not spreadable. Question is: How should we finally introduce them. Book says to bring stuff in with their smell and leave it around the house.

Last week I deflead my cat with frontline, and then he's been at my mum's house while i've been on holiday for a week. Just got back, (cat is still away from home) and found that the floor of my flat is covered in live fleas. To say that I am distubed and purturbed is an understatement. I have laminate wooden flooring. What the hell have they been living on for the last week?? And more importantly, how do I get rid of them?? I 've been getting them with a sticky clothes roller thing, but I keep finding more and keep finding them on me, which is completely freaking me out! Help!

We just got rid of a cat only to find out it had left behind 3 kittens and I had decided to keep one,I did not think they had any fleas because I looked fairly well on them. I have a BAD flea phobia due to bad cases in the past but decided to try one of the kittens inside anyways, I gave him a bath and put Advantage on him lastnight (he is about 8-9 weeks old). But as I was holding him I saw a flea and threw him outside right away which means he had contact with the other two kittens for the whole night. Then I read that it takes 24-48 hours for the Advantage to work so I brought him back inside and put him in the bathroom today, I was just wanting to know if even tho I put him back outside with the others for the night if the Advantage will still work and kill ALL of the fleas and flea eggs. Considering I have carpet it is a lot harder to get rid of the fleas if there is an outbreak.

My mom moved the litter box because it stunk the room then my cat pooped on the floor so I just moved it back. But I don't know if she'll still use the litter box or poop on the floor?

We've had for almost 2 in a half years and shes been litter box trained this whole time.

But now I'm afraid she'll poop on the floor again instead of the litter box - How can I retrain my cat to use the same litter box again just in case?

Its in the same place and it hasnt been altered or anything!

i just brought my cat home from the vet. she had a big, mysterious gash in her leg that had to get stitched up. she also has a drain in her leg now. she is wearing one of those big plastic cone collars so she won't pick at it. i also have to force feed her. is there anything i can do to make her feel more comfortable?

Hey everyone. I need some help.
My Cat is about 9months now and he is acting like a wild child.
I rescued him back in november and he was pretty bad then too but he was yonger. Now he is much older and bigger and his behavior is really difficult to handle. I just moved in the beginning of the month and The living space is MUCH bigger and i dont know if that has something to do with it.
I love this cat soooo much and in the really hard times Ive though about giving him up for adoption but I know that I cannot because he is my son And when you adopt and even more so Rescue a cat. You HAVE to keep them for life and you need to adapt to their behaviors but I just need a bit of tips ideas and help.
But even for some mothers out their their kids mis behave soo bad it just like you wanna give up but you never do. You reach out for help and thats what im doing.

I just asked a question about spaying or not a female cat when there is no risk of pregnancy. Thanks all who answered. A couple more things:
1. When should she be spayed? Is it important to spay her before the first time she is in heat and why?
2. Will being around a neutered male affect her in any way if she goes in heat?
3. I've heard there are contraceptive pills for cats. Anyone know about those?

I adopeted a 10 week old kitten two days ago. While I am happy with her (she is playfull and loving) she doesn't stop meowing. All day and all night she meows over and over no matter how much attention we give her, as long as someone is home she is meowing. Any suggestions on how to keep her quiet at least at night?

I am thinking about adding a new addition to the family, I would love to rescue a cat. I would perfer a more outgoing, loving cat. I also have a cat loving rottie pup so I would like a cat that has not had a bad experience with dogs. I have only had one resuce cat before it was an all black short hair, he was not very friendly though and only seemed to like us when food was around. I am interested in a black and gray striped tabby or a bengal or something that looks simmilar. Do cat breeds have certain personality traits, or is it all about training them at a young age?

I recently got a kitten. Shes been great around the house. The only thing is that she bites hard. I took care of her scratching but putting caps on her nails, but now since I have done that it seems as though her biting has gotten worse. She mainly does it when I play with her. Is there anything I can do to make her stop?

Specifically, I want to know the following:
1. Will she feel bad when she is in heat? How often will she be in heat and for how long?
2. Do females mark their territory with urine if not spayed?
3. How does spaying/not spaying affect her personality and her attitude towards other cats?

My cat has been pregnant, but we just recently found out. We thought it was a male cat, but when i started to get ver y fat in a short amount of time, we knew it was pregnant. It's been missing since Monday, and it's now saturday morning. We've called for her, and we still can't find her. Her food hasn't been touched, and I"m worried about my cat. Should I be? Do you think she's still alive? Please help!

We have had our cat for about 6 months now. she is quite a nervous little thing but after about 2 weeks she started sleeping in our room and seemed very happy.
We realised she wouldn't walk on the floor when she started making elaborate jumps around the place.
We live on a boat and wonder if perhaps the engine has made her not want to be on the floor as there is a vibration when it is on. we have been told that cats don't like vibrations.
Another possibility is that she has recently had fleas and we think she may assosiate the floor with fleas, as when she is standing on there (her food is there! which makes if very difficult) she often is peering around and staring intently at the floor. I have had to move her food bowl to make her eat more often.
My real concern is that we are going away on the boat very soon for 5 months and if she can't stand on the floor it will be impossible for her to enjoy the trp.
Can anyone help? it makes me sad to think we may have to rehome her.

My cat and I were playing and he lunged to attack me. I instinctively slapped him off and scooted him across the linoleum into the wall. He now runs away and hides every time he hears a loud noise or if i approach him wrong. Is there anyway to reverse this behavior, or have i seriously messed up? (Please don't tell that physical punishment for a cat is wrong, i have searched the internet enough and have personal experience now to know that it is.)
