The earliest the digestive tract is mature enough to digest solids is 3 weeks old, but most kittens who have a mom and are nursing won't begin to wean this early. Leave dry food down all the time and they will eventually nibble at it. At 5 weeks begin to offer canned kitten food several times a day. By 7-8 weeks old they really don't need to nurse much, but some mothers will allow them to. Be sure to start deworming at 2-3 weeks old! Your vet can tell you what over the counter meds to use.

Around 6 weeks old, you should introduce moistened dry food. By 8 weeks old, they should be on dry food and fully weaned. Do not force them to be weaned earlier, let the adult cat wean them, she knows when to stop.
You can release the kittens to their new adoptive homes (if you plan on doing so) around 8-12 weeks old.

at 6 weeks of age i would introduce hard kitten food, put it on a plate add a little bit of water and warm it up... let it cool a little bit and bon apetite! by 8-9 weeks when they stop nursing they should be on a complete hard diet... id recomend innova kitten food, eagle pack kitten food, or wellness kitten food. with eagle pack being what we recomened at the vet hospital i work for. oh and ps while the mom is nursing you should be feeding her kitten food as well, help keeps her nourished as well as getting extra goodness to the kittys!
