Honestly it is not that easy. People say certain breeds have certain traits but it isn't always true.
How they are treated when they are young is extremely important. Sometimes you will find rescue cats who have adults but have been in foster care since they were tiny so many of them are very well socialized. Rescue workers are not about "getting rid" of the cat so much as finding a good home and owner/cat match so they will be very honest with you about the animals personality.
Sometimes a rescue worker will say " this cat is very friendly" but the cat wont have a thing to do with you when you come to look at him!.But some cats that are aloof with strangers, absolutely adore their owners!
I have 4 right now for adoption. One is so sweet it is sicking. He is TOO clingy and demanding and won't be tolerated by most owners. One is the perfect pet but when new people come around he hides under the couch and won't come out so nobody wants him. One is naturally aloof and that worries me.one is half feral but still loves to be petted.
I digress. Bottom line is if the rescue worker is any good, they will be honest about the animals personality. So ask them. You could also get a kitten and raise it with the dog but don't try to go with certain breeds. It really isn't that easy. Breeds are stereotyped like people(example: blonds are dumb stereotype). But it is just fantasy that you can predict a personality by a coat color or hair length or eye color or nose type.
Think about it.

Yes, there are certain breeds that have personality traits common to their specific breed. Example, siamese can be allouf and tempermental. That only applies if your interested in a specific pure breed of cat. Otherwise, what the call DSH (domestic short hair) or DLH (domestic Long hair) are usually not one specific breed of cat. Cats like that are quite individual. As with dogs, specific breed doesn't always mean every animal of that breed will be exactly the way the breed traits are described. So, you should really choose any pet based on that individual.

Yes, purebred cats have different personality traits. Tabby is a color, so you can't base personality on that. Regular domestic cats are usually a combination of mixed breeds over the years. Your best bet is to get a kitten that can grow up with the dog. I've done this a lot and my cats love the dogs and aren't afraid of them.

Most definitely is the answer! Check out the link I have quoted as a source, it has great info on the main 10 or so breeds. I chose a bengal cat as they are very playful, affectionate and can be trained easily around the house, not just the basics like litter tray, but tricks, fetching etc and all sorts. They are intelligent compared to most other cat breeds.

Certain breeds have certain traits. But that doesnt say much about the cat. You just need to find one with a personality all its own. One that u fall in love with. When i got my cat in October he was 6 weeks old and so cute, but he had this personality that stood out from all the others, and i love him to death. He always has his personality and always running around chasing shadows and sleeping and playin with the dog, that is like 15 times his size. So you just need to find a cat that you fall in love with its individual personality.

yes, it seems that they are alot like dogs in the sense that the breed characteristics are pretty true in most cases.
Ive had bad experiences w/ animal shelter mutt kitties turning out to be moody stupid animals and bad pets that are unfriendly.
I asked a question about why my cats were never nice and most people said that they were probably Feral cats,
i know people w/strays that are sweet loving too, so its really a shot in the dark...
so next time i buy a cat it will definately be a purebred.

Yes there are many different breeds of cats and they all have something that differentiates them. Even down to personalities.

yes, cats have distinct breeds that have their own characteristics. you can't really train them. they're all pretty independent. even kittens from the same litter can have different personalities, just like human siblings. you just need to find a kitten that is more outgoing.

They do have some personality traits, but generally cats are cats, and each one has her own personality. For example, black shorthair cats are usually very nice and cuddly, and you say yours wasn't.
