Cats - May 2007

We have five cats and feed them all together, filling thier food bowls once a day. One of the cats is overwieght while the others aren't. The food seems to run out well before feeding time. Any ideas would be great. We do plan to consult a vet soon. Thank you.

My cat is 64 days pregnant and she has no milk. She is 1 year old and this is her first litter. Her teets are a little swollen, but that's all. I am worried that she won't have any milk when she has her kittens. Why is she not getting her milk? Is there anything i can do? Is there a good possibility that i will have to bottle feed them?

I have had my cat for about two years. Just now when I was sitting on the bed she ( this is kind of weird a, sorry ) started sniffing my armpits. I didn't really think about it at first but as the seconds passed she started sticking her head up into my armpit, harder and harder. Finally, I pulled away and just started laughing. It is so strange. Is it the 'Old Spice'? Has anyone ever had their cat do this to them?

Is the rabies vax necessary for indoor cats?? Other than that he's perfectly healthy. He's been to the vets 4 times in his life...once when i first got him at 12 weeks for an exam(got Rabies) The second time when he hit maturity and got neutered. I took him to a rabies clinic when he was approx 3yr old. The other 2 times going to the vets was for Crystals in his bladder and needed them removed.

But i was just wondering how necessary it is for them to get the Rabies Vax if he's an indoor cat and has never once tried excaping.

I took my cat to the vet the other day because she seemed sick. It turned out she has some sort of infection of the urniary tract possibly due to crystals forming in her urine. Since this happened to her, she won't be able to eat regular food anymore (Friskies, Meow Mix etc.) because those types of foods caused the crystals to form.

For the next couple of weeks I have to feed her some perscription food to help break up the crystal formations. Then after that, the vet told me that I have to buy this certain cat food to prevent this from happening again and it's $20 bucks a 4 lb. bag!

I don't mind paying for more expensive food, but I was hoping if anyone had any information on places where you can buy special diet type foods for less than what you would pay at the vet.

Also, if anyone knew of a comparable food to buy in place of the expensive stuff that would be just as effective.

Thanks for the help.

My mother in laws cat just had two gorgeous baby kittens. One of the kittens has a huge sac that we think may be water or a liquid inside of it...it hangs at the lower area of her stomach. almost right in between her legs. I suspect that maybe her bladder isnt working like it is supposed to...does anyone have any info on this?

If you tease her with the mouse pointer on her
chest or stomach she will purr, I got her to meow also, by rubbing her forehead with the pointer. If you make a slow circle around her body, counter-clockwise) not only will her head/eyes follow your pointer, but toward the top, her paw will go up, and when in front of her paws at the bottom, her foot comes out like she wants to play with your mouse
pointer. (Don't hold the mouse down, just move it) Enjoy!

I asked about my kitten having a lump behind her ear. the vet said that he cant do anything cause she is only 2 weeks old. today when i came home for lunch, i checked on her and lump was busted in one end and her skin was peeled like the puss came out but there is more on the other side of the lump that is not empty yet. I dont want to squeez it. so i put peroxide on it with a Q-tip and gave her a little bit of amoxicilan for pets. Its that good or not.
Still desperate in Chicago.

Hello, i'm in quite the pickle here.
i recently purchased a bengal kitty and get her in june. I'm having a really hard time deciding whether to declaw her or not.
I know everyone says it's absolutely terrible for cats to be declawed and problems can occur.. I've had a few cats in my lifetime all declawed, and had no problems at all, in fact my first kitty i got is now 17 and still going strong. I've known a lot of cats that have been declawed and no problems.
I'm really not too sure what to do about her. My 1 1/2 year old that i have is declawed is an indoor kitty and she's happier then ever.. no problems. My bengal is also going to be an indoor, and i'm worried about the claws on my other kitty. The woman that runs the cattery clips their nails from weeks old so they're used to it, but they're still sharp and i'm worried about playing with my other.
any advice would be fantastic.. sorry for all the jumble!! thanks in advance!!

I am moving this week and can begin moving my stuff into the apartment today and I need to be out of my current apartment in a week. The apartment is only a few minutes away so I can care for them at either location. Would it make more sense to move them first, put them in a room together with their food, water, litter box, and familiar sleeping surfaces or to move everything out of the current apartment and then move them last?

This is a very old house that I'm fixing up. It has old floors that are in bad shape and they smell. I was left empty and also had a lot of mice so it is double duty with smells. I need to find a way to get the smells out so I can continue working on the re-furbish. I don't want to have to do a total gut. DP

I need some cat help. I have a 9 month old kitten I've had since rescuing him in November. I don't think I've had a solid night of sleep since. He is very active at night, no matter how much I play with him or try to tire him out. He jumps around, walks on me, eats my hair, scratches everything, etc. Mostly he wants attention, but at 3am he also wants food (I schedule feed him - he would eat everything at once and go hungry on a free feed schedule). I'm trying to figure out his food schedule and have been giving him more food at night to keep him satisfied. However, every night he climbs onto my nighstand and knocks everything off one at a time. I've started keeping my nightstand clear of everything but my clock and lamp. Now he's knocking them off too. I've had to buy two new lamps. HELP! What do I do? I try saying NO, I try the squirt bottle, I try shutting him in the bathroom. But he keeps doing it every single night and its starting to drive me crazy. Any advice??

A managed cat colony at the church where I teach preschool is using our playground as a litter box. The ground cover we have is wood chips. We have tried fox urine, a special box that makes a cat-repelling noise and a commercial chemical product all with no noticiable difference in the frequency of use. It is causing a huge problem between the colony manager, church members and the preschool staff. help!
