My cat does the same thing, but doesnt scratch at it.. You could go to the pet store and buy some disattracted spray that you would spray in your house where you dont want your cat/dog around.

Cats dont know your car is special and its nice and warm and they love to sit on it.
With my new car, I had to buy a car cover which takes a few extra minutes but well worth it. Before I saved up the $ I used old sheets shut the corners in the door and spread one over the hood and one over the trunk.
Sometimes its irksome, but the cat doesnt know its doing anything wrong.
I have cat door to the garage for the litter box by the way.
Good Luck!!!!

Could be it's only after it has been driven, and your furry buddy likes the warmth(???)
How about draping something over the hood that has a texture not too pleasant to fuzz ball?
Get creative. What do you have that is slightly abrasive on one side, but not on the other, as to scratch the hood???

Buy a Scat Mat. Type 'Scat Mat' into your browser, you'll see a ton of links. It's a rubber mat that you plug in, and if the cat jumps on it, it gives the cat a very mild shock. It works really well! And after your cat has been trained to stay off, you can get a FAKE mat, so you don't need to keep it plugged in!
In the meantime, please don't be angry with the cat. Cars are warm and we all know how much cats LOVE warm spots!

be careful. cats sit on the hoods typically because they are trying to get warm. in very cold weather they have been known to climb into the engine compartment too. cats have been killed when the car engine was started and ppl didnt know they were there. so i would rethink leaving your kitty firend out at all. cats have very short lives when the go outside.
please dont think im yelling at you. i dont mean to. just want u to have ur friend for a very long time.

Keep your cat indoors. Safe from a car running him over. Provide lots of cat trees and toys and he won't want to sit on your hood.

Spray it with tea tree oil, cats hate it. Or just buy a car cover.

Try foil or newspaper but crinkle it up first so its not flat. they dont like the feel of it so it works for most cats.

When you park the car, pop the hood, he won't be able to sit on it if it's open!
