I asked about my kitten having a lump behind her ear. the vet said that he cant do anything cause she is only 2 weeks old. today when i came home for lunch, i checked on her and lump was busted in one end and her skin was peeled like the puss came out but there is more on the other side of the lump that is not empty yet. I dont want to squeez it. so i put peroxide on it with a Q-tip and gave her a little bit of amoxicilan for pets. Its that good or not.
Still desperate in Chicago.

cleaning it with peroxide was a good idea but there was really no reason for the amoxicilan. It might have been a tick have you vet get her for lime disease asap,it can be treated but very dangerous if left untreated. Good luck

You need to take her into a different vet clinic immediately!!! If there is none open, then you must take her into an emergency clinic.

This is absolutely not normal, and the cause of the lump must be figured out. The first thing that comes to mind is a parasite... there are several which actually burrow down into the skin and cause lumps- some of which can burst out after they develop, leaving an open festering wound behind...

There are also viruses and bacteria which can cause this. If there is pus, there is an infection, and a 2 week old kitten does not yet have a strong enough immune system to fight off an infection. Please take her to a veterinarian who sees kittens- call around and ask them.

If a kitten is old enough to become infected, she is old enough to be treated. Please seek veterinary attention before this progresses any further and you loose the kitten because of an irresponsible vet.

Please ask the new vet you take her to to check for parasites, such as Cuterebra (a fly larva) and mites.

Depending on where you live, two excellent emergency clinics are Animals 911 located at 3735 W. Dempster Street in Skokie 847/673-9110 and Animal Emergency and Treatment Center 1810 E. Belvidere Road in Grayslake 847/548-5300.

Please act fast!

For abcesses in little kitties, the best thing you can do is keep it clean like you are. Use warm towels to hot-pack it and encourage the pus to run. Don't let it scab over until it has drained completely. Don't give her the amoxicillin, her immune system is not ready for it, and will have minimal effect. Make sure she eats and drinks well, keep her warm and dry, and encourage momma to lick the wound, if she seems interested.

The peroxide will make her vomit, if she ingests it, clean it off her ear before you let her lick.

she probably scratched it, just keep it clean with the peroxide as good as you can. the peroxide shouldn't hurt her if the ingests it. cats lick a lot on their bodied and she will eventually get some into her mouth when she rubs her paw over it. and then licks her paw.

I don't think your vet was very helpful. Please call them back and explain what happened, or find another vet to work with.
