This is a very old house that I'm fixing up. It has old floors that are in bad shape and they smell. I was left empty and also had a lot of mice so it is double duty with smells. I need to find a way to get the smells out so I can continue working on the re-furbish. I don't want to have to do a total gut. DP

I've had good luck with Vinegar. Then follow up with a strong perfume like they sell for car freshing sprays. But don't just spray, use it like a wash.

But this will only work if the smell is only coming from the floor.

It sounds to me as if it might also be in the walls. In that case, you might have to strip out the lower 1 to 2 feet of drywall, clean and treat the wood inside the wall as I have described for the flooring.

The reason this works is the vinegar neutralizes many of the chemicals in the urine. The perfume works because it is fragrances already combined with substances like cat urine. Sometimes, it actually is cat urine extract, but I digress.... the same fragrances used in the perfume, then combine with the cat urine to become less offensive. It doesnt really obliterate the remaining cat urine, but if you pick a fragrance you like, you won't mind so much.

Well, my daughter did something like that and the only way we were able to get the cat urine smell out was by using Kiltz on the floor. Then you would have to use a carpet or something to cover the floors because the Kiltz is like a paint. If you are wanting to restore the floors, then I don't know. Good Luck!

Use vinegar and water. Its harmless and a great cleaner. But it stinks, haha. So after you get the smells out, use a good, clean smelling cleaner to get rid of the vinegar smell.

If you have a pet store near you, go there or call them and ask that question.
