Cats - January 2007

[Selected]: All categories Pets Cats

I have two cats, one male one female, both are fixed. they are only 4 months apart in age and have been best friends for the past 6 years. Recently, they have been fighting all the time even though they seem to hate to be separated. Where one goes, the other goes.

It begins with my male prowling around the house, then my female starts to hiss and growl, then my male pounces on her and she runs and it's fighting time, howls and all.

The vet (3 months ago) switched them from free choice dry to 2x a day wet food only to make them lose weight. I know my male is miserable with his new Atkins diet but he was too fat. I have feliway diffusers in all rooms they go in. I have tried scruffing. I have tried toys. Fresh air. Hissing back.

They are both in perfect health as of their appointment two days ago.

HELP!!!!

am not breeder nor do i intend to breed animals of any kind!!! I DONT SUPPORT BREEDING!! THERES ENOUGH HOMLESS STRAY ANIMALS TO CONTRIBUTE MORE!... however i have contributed to the cat population but unlike most i keep the cats...i dont pawn them off on others or throw them on the streets...it was my fault i didnt get my mumma cat and boys fixed (theyre all fixed now) but the question is..mumma cat and her son mated they had a kitten only 1 survived and he looks differint...hes very immature (not growing much) still looks like a baby kitten and hes 6 months old..i brought him to b fixed and the vet didnt mencion it but im worried..his face looks odd too..very long with extreamly large ears.. now his mom nor father were inbred so this is not a long cycle.. i rescued mumma when she was pregnant with her 1st 4 boys kept them all..what are the effects from the inbreeding of this kitten..is he lilkley b as normal? any sites or info on this? thanks 4 ur help!

i just got a new cat for my b-day which is tomorrow and i just wanted to get a little kitty as well. Now the previous owner of my new cat says that she doesnt get along with other cats.

When i went to visit, i saw the evidence of that, but as well, i want a kitten too. Now, how exactly can i get her to get along with a new kitty???

Thanx guys

Ok this is my frustration. A few weeks ago I was at a local library and notices some cats in a van. This was an old junky van filled with god knows what but I saw to cats that looked healthy hanging out in there. I thought well "maybe" someone ran in quick. If the van was abandoned, the library would have it towed (its a small town library)....The next week I saw the cats in their again. The weather was getting colder, so I went in and asked the librarians whose van it was. They said the mans been coming for years, and he always has cats in the van. They believed he and the cats live in the van. After a few more visits and the weather getting colder. I came home and called Animal Welfare. Its been very cold here in Ohio, and its evident that these cats spend most of their day alone in that van, with lots of garbage and peeing and pooping in there...Animal Welfare said "At least there not outside, and there was nothing they could do." Is it right for me to be pissed? Its cold

My cat is about 7 months old now, he's a male, and when he has about 5,6 weeks old his mother was hit by a car & killed and that was how we got him. Now he's always trying to nurse off of our older male cat. He does it constantly through out the day.
How do I get him to stop....or will I have to wait it out? I can accept if my cat his homosexual (heheh...) but it gets annoying because it leads to them getting into fights. I can't get rid of either of them.

He has been doing this since he was kitten. He likes to dig in the sand, roll around and throw sand all over himself and the floor. He usually does it after it has been cleaned out. I have yelled at him, bathed him, spanked him and nothing works.

I have lost the element of surprise and when she sees me coming she hides under the bed. I've tried wrapping her in a towel but she always manages to squrm out. I trap her in the bathroom and then just rassle her down. Sometimes I don't think I get any of it in her eye at all. Poor kitty. Poor me. Any ideas?

My 6 month old cat ONLY pees in my room on my stuff. Actually not just on my stuff... on clothes. If I have dirty clothes in a basket he will jump up on them and pee!! Also, I came home from going out of town... and he peed on my freakin suitcase!! So I had to throw out the suitcase. Then last night, I came home from practice (I'm a coach) and I sat my bag on the floor, went into the kitchen, came back and saw him in the bag, where he had peed. I am SO sick of him peeing on my stuff. He doesn't pee on my roommates stuff, and since my door has been closed he has been peeing in the cat box. However, he sits outside of my door and meows, and then gives up and goes to the catbox. WTF!?!? I have had cats before, and NONE of them peed on my stuff. I'm at my wits end. It's disgusting. What do I do?

my boyfriend and i have a male cat. he is not fixed. i don't know how old he is since we found him outside. at times our cat will bite us when sitting on our lap for about two minutes. he has sometimes even bitten our neck when one of us is lying down. we are both kind of scared of having him close to us because we don't want him to bite us. we can kind of tell when he is going to bite us because he does this weird kind of meowing sound when we move or try to get him off. i wanted to know why he does this and how we can stop this behavior.

I found my kitten when he was about 8 weeks old as he was a wild (outside ) cat. I have him mostly tame now, but he likes to attack me! I guess he thinks it's a game, but I am bleeding every other night! What is the proper way to correct this? The kitten is now about 5 months old. thank you

i promised my girlfriend a kitten for valentines day. simple right? wrong! turns out cats don't really have kittens this time of year (who knew). i've tried tons of animal shelters, and they all say that they'll be up to their necks in kittens in a couple of months, but none of them can help me now. so, if anyone has kittens for sale, or for free in Georgia (preferably in the Atl area), please let me know. any other ideas as to where to find kittens will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I know Bengal cats don't typically get on with domestic shorthairs, but what about kittens that have a bengal mother and a domestic dad? Is it still a problem? Does it make any difference if they know each other from kittenhood?
