ha ha ha... your kitty obviously thinks the litter is very interesting stuff to play with. Many kittens play, roll on or lay down in their litter - clean or not As they mature, the behavior stops. Perhaps you can get one of those litter boxes with a hood cover in the meantime and see if kitty can get distracted by some other new and interesting toy to play with. :) Don't worry though - the silly behavior will eventually stop as the cat gets older. My kitten used to do that but has stopped after a month or so.

Use unscented litter. That usually does the trick. Tidy cat Has a new brand out that says new tidy lock , on the front left as you are looking at it. It don't have that strong scent, otherwise use some unscented arm and hammer. If that don't work, then there is a medical problem with kitty. Kitty is associating pain with the litter bbox when kitty goes. It is time to see the vet. One important thing, never punish the cat near the cat box or about the litter box, it will assume the litter box is a bad thing and will go other places in the home, so let kitty know that the litter box is a very good thing. This also could be because it is kinda new to your home. Good Luck to all.

Buy a hooded litter box, and this will help a little bit.
You can also try to watch him when he does it, and when he does, pick him up and put him outside in some dirt. They love to roll around in it. Like taking a bird bath sorta. Hope this helps.

why does this bother you? cats are very clean animals so if you keep your box clean and he/she keeps clean there really is no harm other then more litter on your floors LOL .some cats have quirks on eof mine likes to hide behind the shower curatin and jump at us,another likes to sleep in the bathroom sink, be glad he/she is playfull not distructive

Maybe you can change the litter and then he won't play in it??? My cat used the normal clumping litter and then i tried the crystals, and she sat on it and played with it, as if she didn't understand what it was for, so i changed it back, and she stopped doing that.

Get a water bottle and spray him with water when he does this. Let the cat go outside more, to play.
