My husband has put the dogs flea treatment on the cat, I know they have separate frontline for dogs and cats, he seems ok at the moment will it have a bad affect?

Did you call your vet? The treatments are determined by size but I dont know if the medication is different. I would call the vet while giving the cat a bath to remove some of the medication.

The difference between the cat and dog formula is the amount in the applicator. Also the skin types and exposure to the elements are different.

There shouldn't be an adverse affect unless it was A LOT of frontline. Just keep and eye out for a bald spot, excessive itching, and excessive dry skin.

If she shows those signs call your vet, but more than likely there isn't anything that can be done until the Frontline has run it's course, possibly some sort of shampoo.

Also if it was an excessive amount there maybe be poisoning - check for loss of appetite, lethargy, excessive drinking, and soft stool. If you notice any of those take the kitty to see the doctor.

Good Luck

Its the same stuff - our vet gives us the small dog pack of frontline to split between our 4 cats.

What size was the dog treatment? It its the same size (0.5ml) as the cat sized treatment, the cat will be fine. If your cat has had a larger amount of frontline, contact your vet for advice.

No, if you check the ingredients of both cats and dogs I believe its the same. The strength is different so make sure he doesn't give the cat to much or that will make your cat sick. Tell your husband not to make it a habit though. Since he already did it you should know soon if the cat will have a reaction if he gave it to much. It goes by their weight.
Hope the kitty is OK, If it starts foaming at the mouth get him to a vet quick!!

I've never had it happen, but my vet has specified that either brand shouldn't go on the opposite animal. If he's doing okay, that's good (just don't make it a habit of taking chances). But if he does get sick or runs a fever, take him to the vet and mention right away that the wrong type of flea medicine was put on-no matter how long ago it was.

i work in a vets and i would take the cat straight to your vet as it can seriously harm your cat!
what frontline does is go in the bloodstream so that when a flea bites it will paralise the flea and kill it, if you give a cat dog frontline this will be the affect on the cat

Good luck x

The substance is the same for cats and dogs. The dose and concentration changes, because cats are smaller than dogs. So basically your cat possibly took an overdose, but I don't suppose there will be any problem. If she has any symptoms, like vomit, diarrhea, trembling or anything unusual consult the vet.

The difference would be the dosage as a cat is smaller than most dogs. Still I am sure your cat will be fine however if you do have any worries ring the vet and ask. I am sure they get these questions all the time

Yes, it can. The doses for dogs and cats are completely different. Try to rinse it off ASAP and keep an eye on it for the next 24-48 hrs. If anything happens, rush it to the vet.

i know Advantage is very good, one animal shelter only uses and recommends advantage, i know they have licked that stuff on each other and never have gotten sick, very effective, i know they have this Revolution now, but I know advantage really gets rid of all their fleas and the environment and very safe and effective, try 1-800-PetMeds pretty cheap

Advantage good esp if you keep ur cat indoors

about using dog dosages on cats, (frontline), definitely ask vet, dosages and strengths may be different may be too much, ask if the strength the same or amount how different look at packages for both
