i have to cats that do this....somtimes it seems they are happier licking you then being petted. it's completly normal they are just showing you that they love you...it's not them thinking they are dog, they are being just like a cat...have you ever seen cats licking eachother? they are cleaning eachother and taking care of eachother, thats what your cat is doing with you. it loves you just that much!

Yes that is normal. Cats lick you, but it's not like a dog lick. Remember Cats will lick other cats and themselves for grooming purposes. If you cat licks you that means that he's grooming you. Don't get offened by this. by him doing that says that you are one of the clan. if it gets to be too much, then pull away and say "No".

one of my 2 cats licks a lot too... every night when i go to bed, he climbs on top of my chest or beside torso and PURRS so loud. when i rub him, he licks my hands. sometimes he even tries to lick and/or bite my nose. my other cat climbs on the back of the couch and bites my hair. he isn't much of a licker, but he loves chewing on my hair.

i read somewhere a long time ago (actually while waiting in line at the grocery, reading one of those small magazines about 'how to talk to your cat') that when your cat licks you, most often it is a sign of affection. another way of showing affection is gently biting on your nose or your face. also, looking at you and slowly blinking her eyes is a way of saying "i love you." you can respond in the same way, if you want. i do it with my cats all the time.

isn't it just the sweetest thing?

Hello there. Trust me this is very normal. When I got my male cat he was only a kitten. He was brought up with my 2 year old dog. He followed the dog everywhere, even came for walks with us. He would also sit and beg for food like my dog did, wether this be by tapping us with his paw or meowing at us. And yes to the licking too.

I would often say im sure he thinks he's a dog and not a cat. He would even play fetch with a small ball AND bring it back.

There was nothing we did to teach him any of this. He learnt it all from our dog.

Anything is normal for a cat to do. I don't think it is real common though. I think he is just being affectionate, showing you he loves you! Or maybe he thinks you need a bath. Cats are very finicky when it comes to cleanliness, if he doesn't see you licking yourself, lol maybe he thinks you don't bath. We just never know what our cats are thinking, too bad, it would probably keep us laughing all the time if we did!!

I can't tell you if it's normal. But, my female cat does that. I always thought it was the mothering instinct in her. She always licks you when you pet her. I'm interested to hear what others have to say.
