Ok this is my frustration. A few weeks ago I was at a local library and notices some cats in a van. This was an old junky van filled with god knows what but I saw to cats that looked healthy hanging out in there. I thought well "maybe" someone ran in quick. If the van was abandoned, the library would have it towed (its a small town library)....The next week I saw the cats in their again. The weather was getting colder, so I went in and asked the librarians whose van it was. They said the mans been coming for years, and he always has cats in the van. They believed he and the cats live in the van. After a few more visits and the weather getting colder. I came home and called Animal Welfare. Its been very cold here in Ohio, and its evident that these cats spend most of their day alone in that van, with lots of garbage and peeing and pooping in there...Animal Welfare said "At least there not outside, and there was nothing they could do." Is it right for me to be pissed? Its cold

Im sure he loves them, but is it right for them to live in that van? Local police said they didnt have contract with Animal Welfare, so they couldnt do anything (called police before animal welfare after 3rd time seeing cats)...Will they be ok in there, even though its been around 10 degrees at night? Should I forget about it or try for more help? Thanks..sorry its so long

From what I hear the man is mentally unstable...He has money because they say he goes to Flea Markets everyday, and I saw him smoking cigerettes and drinking a coffee..So if he was so "poor" why would he waste his money on that and not a place to live. Id be happy to take the cats, but NOT some stranger I dont know!

It is hard to see this sort of thing, I know. But consider: the man who lives in that van is obviously very very poor. He LIVES in the van and so must his cats. He must be trying his best to feed himself and the cats, keep himself warm and his cats. POVERTY is not a crime... but it is no reason why we must step in and deprive this poor man of probably the only interraction he has with beings that are alive. The cats must be the only living things that love this man unconditionally. Try not to be too judgmental.

I was born in a very poor country and I have seen people there feed their cat or dog the last scrap of food they have for the day and go without a meal themselves. It is very hard to witness things like this, I know.

Why not go to the grocery and buy a box or two of premium cat food and give that to the poor man in the van? Do a good deed instead of sitiing up your high horse and condemning this man for his poverty.

I can't believe that they would even say that "at least they arent outside...." that's such crap... unless the guy leaves the heater on, its way too cold in there!!! 10 degrees is cold... because where i am is 30 degrees in the morning, and that's cold! You should contact the ASPCA, and they would come in and take them away. Call the nearest humane shelter... they can help... Good luck, and please let us know what happens.

Also, people should do what's best for the animals not for themselves, it's selfish to keep those animals if you can't keep them. Yes, i know he's poor, yes, he's trying his best, but that's not enough. It's best for those pets to be in a safe, warm home while he gets his life together, and when he's in a better place, then maybe he can get some new cats.

You should invite the man and his cats to stay in your warm house instead of that cold van. That's what I'd do.

Yes I would be pissed too!! That's wrong of that person to do that. Could you try to free the cats at night when there is no one around, if you get my drift? Good luck with the poor cats!!!!

No, but if action will not be taken you could always go by and put some old blankets in there for them to keep them warm
