Cats - December 2006

my brother is going to california for Christmas and left me his cat to watch for 3 weeks. I already have 2 cats of my own and things are going well. as I already assumed...they hate eachother and now even my 2 cats hiss at eachother. Stewie (my brothers cat) wont eat or drink or even come out to use the litter box. I honestly dont think hes gone to the bathroom in 24 hours. if he has it was in the middle of the night and thats it since then. my question is....how can i get him to eat and come out from under the bed? if i take him out he cries then runs back into the bedrrom.

My cat has some clumps of fur on his back that won't come out. A friend told me to give him vegetable oil so I mixed a spoon of olive oil with a bit of tuna and it seemed to improve his fur. Then another friend told me to give him fish oil instead so I did but he barely touched it, and then he vomited later so I won't do that again! My question is, is it really okay to give him vegetable oil and what kind is best? He eats dry diet cat food so it's very low in fat, and I doubt if he gets enough essential fatty acids.

they're really tiny, and most of them are in tiny itty bity curls or bean shapes, almost like some form of bugs, but none of them moving. He is a very happy, healthy, clean cat. What could they be?

An adorable kitten showed up on our doorstep and has moved in with our adult cat. But she is terribly spooky and wont let us touch her. A few times we have been able to catch her and she calms immediately. She plays with us and the other cat, but when we reach out to her, she runs away. She's about 9 weeks old. Any suggestions?

I don't understand.. When I go to people's houses they're cats just seem to do whatever they please. They don't even come when you call them.. None of my cats have been like this, and they have all picked up on their name and come when I call.

Why do some cats ignore people? Is it because their owners don't give them enough attention?

I would love to have a family photo of all my cats. I can't get them to sit still long enough. Has anyone ever gotten lucky enough to get one and how did you manage getting them all to be still at once? I have 4. Should I just forget it?

I am trying to get the kids to keep their doors closed but they seem to keep getting in there. We just adopted them in August, otherwise they are really great cats and I don't want to have to get rid of them. We have all fallen in love with them, however I can't keep washing their bedding every other day. Help!!!

I have a 12mth old female and a 12 mth old male. I make them come in of a night. My male cat has trained himself to wait until morning to go to the toilet, but my female wont, and she has a bad habit of standing in the tray and pooping over the side. My male cat then stresses and feels he needs to cover it,and he makes a huge mess moving litter to the outside of the box. What can I do to fix my females problem? My mum thinks I should take the tray away, but dont want her to dirty in the house. She likes the tray I assume, as she comes in of a day to use it instead of the garden.

It's called a Turbo Scratcher, a circle of replacable cardboard with a ball that rolls around the outside. She loves playing with the ball, and all of the other cats I know love the toy and all of them know to scratch it. How can I get mine to?

The bump is like a baby sized olive and it has a greenish tan look to it, she just came in from out side and we heard her meowing loudly when she came in. i discovered this when i was petting her and felt a large bump. I tried to pull it out but its too hard and i don't want to hurt her...does anyone know what this could be?

I am new to cats. We always had dogs growing up. I now have my first cat, a sweet female maine coon (spayed). But I'm still learning to understand the differences in how cats and dogs behave. Why does she do the following things:
1. Open up those perfume samples in women's magazines and roll in them.
2. Sit on each piece of paper in the house, once, when it first arrives (I am a teacher, so the cat has to sit on about 90 student papers a month).
3. Insist of sleeping on top of me. (It's a big bed, but she always sleeps on me.)
4. Get along fine with every other species of mammal except other cats (I had a baby raccoon in my spare bedroom for two days before I discovered it, the cat got along fine with it, but will try to eviscerate other cats on sight).
5. Sleep 20 hours out of 24. (She gets cranky and sleep deprived if she misses even one.)
6. Only eat kibble. She runs away from wet food, any wet food, as if I'm assaulting her with it.
7. Change her sleeping spot every two weeks.

She eats a lot. Her mating area looked kinda red. She's super affectionate. Just a sweetie! We're actively searching for her family via newspapers and fliers.
