I live in a two bedroom apartment with 5 cats, and when you walk into my apartment you can't even tell that I have cats. I've been using a cat litter called Everclean for years, and for me it's the best. It comes in scented or non-scented and you never smell cat urine... Never... It's a bit on the pricey side at about $12.00 to $15.00 dollar for a box of 25lbs, but for me and my nose, it's worth every penny!
Trust me... The biggest compliment I get is when someone walks in my apartment and tells me, there no way you have 5 cats...

I have this same problem. The best litter that I've found is Exquisi Cat found at WalMart and PetSmart. Don't get the scented though - it is gross smelling! It is super cheap ($3 for 20 pounds) and as long as you scoop the poop every day it should last a week before it needs changed.

I also occasionally put baking soda in the bottom of the litter pan before dumping in the litter or I spray the inside of the litter box with Lysol. I helps keep the urine odor down.

Good luck!

Arm&Hammer puts out a great deodorizing cat litter.

I also had excellent results with just about ANY litter with "crystals" -- blue and sparkly, the cat wasn't too sure of them so I had to mix his litter with it for the first week. These little silicon crystals absorb the urine, then allow the water in it to evaporate trapping the smell inside. If you "stir" the litter daily with a scoop, it'll naturally evaporate the wet and you don't have to change the litter as often -- it dries out the poo as well, making it easy to scoop out and pretty much without scent. They cost a bit more.

If you can't afford higher QUALITY litter, try mixing a bit of baking soda with your usual cheap litter -- it absorbs the smell and the kitty won't mind a bit ;)

We just bought a litter called Purina Maxx Scoop and it seems to be working pretty good. I'm also going to recommend increasing how often you clean it if it's making the whole room smell! If you are cleaning it often and it still stinks the entire room it might be a problem with your cat's bladder. Consider taking it to the vet.

Scoop Away multi cat formula. It is the best. I have 3 cats and people who visit always are surprised to see a cat becuz you cant smell it. It's the best. I have used other brands including Arm and Hammer and they didnt work. You can still smell the ammonia in the urine.

I use Tidy Cats. Its pretty cheap, does the job and doesn't have an overpowering smell like some of the litters out there.

Ya there are certain cat litters that you can get that are odorless but they also cover up the smell. It will say it on the box you just have to look for it.

I buy the Arm & Hammer Flushable litter. It works great and really cuts down on the urine odor. When flushing the clumped urine, count to ten before flushing, it may clog the pipes.
