I am a Registered Veterinary Technican for the last 16 years. Usually the first Rabies vaccine is given at 14 to 16 weeks of age then yearly. But there are other vaccines that your cat should have re: FVRCP --starting at 8 weeks of age and boostering once a month till 16 weeks then yearly. If your cat goes outside it should be tested for Feline Leukemia (FELV). If every thing is OK start the FELV vaccine, which is 2 vaccines 1 month apart then yearly. I hope you and your kitty have a wonderful life together.

When I worked at a vet, the rabies shot was given to kittens on their third visit, which was generally at 12 weeks old, so I would say they would have to be at the very least 3 months old. This is based on a first visit at 6 weeks.

It is advisable to not give the rabies vaccination to any kitten or puppy under the age of 16 weeks of age. It is best to wait longer if possible.
