We would prefer male kitten. And one that hasn't spent its young life in a cage.We are not having much luck checking the classifieds. We understand that it isn't the best season to be looking but.....please, any leads???

You have hit the button straight one - there are just not two-month old kittens around at this time of year. Cats mate in December and January (for starters), the kittens have a two-month gestation period and then two months to be weaned from their mothers. Then the adoptable kitten population EXPLODES in April through the summer and into the fall.

Shelters now have kittens five to seven months old. Any shelter kitten is a bargain compared to a free one because the shelters take care of their basic medical needs, most are spayed or neutered, they have been wormed and had their shots. Adoption of a shelter kitten is much less than taking care of these necessities on the "open" market.

Shelters put as many kittens together as they can as they realise the importance of early socialisation with kittens of the same age. Shelter people love to cuddle and socialise with the kittens too and many shelters have people who volunteer their time so that kittens are bonded to humans as well as other cats. So they have not been damaged by being in a cage. Also you will have an easier time of it and happier kittens if you get two at the same time.

Hi there...consider either Petfinder or your local Craigslist to locate a free kitten. On the Salt Lake City Craigslist there are several free kittens currently advertised:
http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/search/pet?query=kitten
http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/search/pet?query=kittens

People post ads every minute daily on Craigslist, so be sure to check back often. To narrow the search through all the pet ads type in the search fields the following key words: cat, cats, kitty, kitties, kittens, kitten

Buy a local paper and look at the want ads in the back. People usually give away kittens to a good home. Best of luck to you.

Patience on this will pay off, come february/march you will have so many to pick from you won't know what to do. Honestly if you want to bring a furry member into your home you are going to want the best selection you can get, and at that point you have a better chance of one picking you!

Your local humane society and also PetFinder.com are good places to look. I know you said you want a kitten, but please consider an adult cat. They have a lower chance of being adopted out (i.e. more likely euthinized) than kittens.

NO pet is EVER going to be FREE!!!!! try your local SPCA or shelter!!!! why do you care if he's been in a cage!! you do know that the SPCA is the BEST way to go don't you??? asking random people over the internet isn't the smartest way to go either!!!
