Cats - September 2006

I have a 3-year-old cat. It never goes out since I adopted her two and a half years ago, and I never feed her raw meat. But her toxoplasmosis antibody is positive. I'm planning to have a baby now. My toxo. test is negative. And I have to change the litter myself 'cause my husband is often on a business trip. I'd like to know whether my cat is likely to shed oozysts again. What can I do to avoid being infected?

I don't get it?

If I'm a professional breeded and have been for years as well as several people on my family? why can't I breed cats?

I understand the overpopolation thing. It's unbelievable the number of animals being put to sleep because there are no homes.

However if you want an exotic cat, like a persian, ragdoll, hymilian, etc. and there are no kittens available in the shelters why can't a person come to a breeder, if they really want a kitten?

.That's what I do. I'm a breeder, when I have at least 3 families call me and ask me about a kitten, then I have my cat checked out, and have her mate with my cousins cat(a cat they adopted from me about 5 years ago).

It's really crazy that when I ask a question about my kittens they say "you should have had her fixed" and call me an irresponsible pet owner when, as you just read above I have been doing this for years, in fact generations.

cat?
She is an Orange Tabby and they used to feed her Meow Mix, but since they are getting too old to remember when to feed her, I have been helping out. I have a dog & its just easier to bring some of the Alpo that I buy.

There's a grey cat that has visited my house more and more over the last few weeks. It keeps finding ways into the house - it manages to jump in through the smallest open windows.
My housemate started feeding it and lets it stay at night. We put it out as often as we can, but it fights to stay in, or just immediately jumps back in through a window. When it does stay out, it's never gone for long.

One day there a kitten came with it. It appears to be owned by the same person as they have the same collars (although they are pretty generic collars, one of only two kinds sold at the local pet store, there are no names or numbers on them). It seems too young to be out - it seems pretty helpless, and keeps trying to suckle on our hands, or any bit of bare skin it can reach!

We're under the impression that these cats are being neglected at home. The kitten, especially, seems to be too young to be out and undernourished. Do we kick them out and leave them to go home or phone the RSPCA?

Hello all and thanks in advance for ur positive responses.

I have a cute ragdoll cat who gave birth to 4 kittens. I had her mate on purpose so I could have a new kitten in mt own home as well as at my 2 sisters and one brothers house.

The kittens are almost 7 weeks old and I would like to have them spayed and neutered (except for my kitten, so I can continue breeding) b4 I give then away. And more important than that I want to have me cat fixed (she runs out from time to time, usually when I'm bringing in groceries or laundry,) and I'm terrified she may be in heat without me knowing it and mate when I least expect it and I would'nt feel right killing kittens by having her neutered then.
But I defently don't want mix breed kittens.

Someone told me about a site that gives away vouchers you can print out for discounts or free neutering.

She's almost stopped nursing and I would love to set an appointment for her for a little peace of mind.

I live in Philadelphia,

My cat generally wants to go out at night and stay in during the day. She has trained us well to let her in and out - she is great at meowing under the bedroom window at night when she wants to come in (and we are soft, so we do let her in!!). She won't stop out during the day, yet at night will go out only when it is dark and doesn't come back in until dawn. She then sleeps for most of the day.
Yet loads of people seem to think this is wrong and not safe - why?

In the absence of National Service, should our feline 'friends' be made to go to Iraq in order to keep them in line.

My cat is already litter trained. I moved and noticed he was peeing outside his litter box I figured it was a behavior problem I took him to the vet anyway found out he had a urinary tract infection. The vet said he was not using his cat box because it hurt when he would pee and he associated the pain with the cat box. He has taken medcation for his problem however is still not using the cat box the vet says he has to be re-litter trained I really need to fix this problem. I love my cat and do not want ot get rid of him. I need some suggestions I also have a job and I am not home all the time. I can't stand this any longer and I am expecting a baby in 7 weeks and can't have a cat peeing in my house. I need a quick fix without having to get rid of him anything he is already neutered. I never littered trained him to begin with he was adpoted and has always used his cat box. Someone please HELP!!!! ANY SUGGESTIONS???

The vet says he quit using his litter box because it hurt when he went pee so he assicoated the pain with the cat box. Now he is feeling much better because of the medcation but is still peeing the vet says he has to be re-litter trained, but should not be corrected by rubbing nose in pee because cats will tend tto pee more when corrected like the I really love my cat and need help with this problem asap not only is it gross to have cat pee in my house but I am about to have a baby and I don't need a cat peeing everywhere but i don't want to get rid of him any suggestions? My kitty no matter what we do wont drink from his water bowl. He only drinks water from the running water in our sinks, thus, whenever we go to the bathroom, we have to turn the faucet on for him to drink water. We're worried.
