When approaching a cat, always bend down to their level and put out your hand and let them smell you. If they like you they will rub up against you, if not they will move away. Generally a cat won't just bite you for no reason so if you are gentle with them, you should be able to put your fears to rest.

Facing your fears is overrated. If you're afraid of something, whatever the reason, it's natural to hide from it. Don't feel ashamed to hide. You might start by explaining to your children that this isn't funny, and they should respect and support you. How would they like it if you laughed at their fears? You need to find a way to feel safe when it happens - I don't know how. Maybe your family can help you out somehow. Maybe you could read about the subject (on a clear, sunny day) and find out some facts about it, like how unlikely it is to strike you. I also have a theory that thunder and rain mimic the sounds an unborn infant hears in her mother's belly. Rain must sound a lot like blood rushing through arteries, and thunder like the explosions of gas bubbles inside her intestinal tract. I find the sounds very soothing, which means my mother must have had a happy pregnancy. Infants always pick up on their mother's emotions. Maybe your mother had a stressful pregnancy? Just a thought.

In order to get over your fear of cats , Try being around one, just pet it, and play wih it. If u see the cat trying to get to rough and bite or nibble, say in a firm voice "Stop" but the more you are around them the more you can get over the fear.

Don't get near a stray cat. If your KNOW the cat from a friend or family member, then don't show your fear towards the cat because they sense fear, just as dogs do! If you like cats, simply reach out to pet it, but if not, then ignore cats, but please don't be rude to them.

Cats are scary demonic looking and sounding when theyre mean or frightened.
Just remember that youre much bigger than a cat and that most cats are really afraid of you!!
Ignoring them if they arent approachable and petting them if they come to you. I have cats and Im a bit afraid of them too! hehe

So pity of you. You can try on some kittens first as they are more gentle but not with mother cat. They get angry very easily. If you do really have problems with it, see a doctor.

Don't. A small amount of fear is useful; keeps you cautious. Just need a little, though.
