i was reading some of the responses and alot where sayin collars arent safe for kittens. well they are. you just need to make sure its a "Breakaway" collar. which means when you pull on it firmly the collar clasp opens so the kitten wont choke on it. it doesnt actually break it just realeses. i say any regular pet shop has them just ask from breakaway collars. they should have them in the cat section. the way you can tell if it is is it clips together like a fanny pack and not buckles. those are the safest collar. but i do suggest the microchip incase the cat gets out and the collar falls off then they can identify it.

Cats should only be fitted with breakaway collars. These easily snap if the cat gets caught on something, preventing them from hanging themselves or choking. That being said, I don't know if a kitten would be heavy enough to make it snap.

You don't need a collar on a kitten. If you're planning on letting her outside (which I don't recommend at all), you REALLY shouldn't let her out until she's grown. But if she's going to be an inside cat (much safer), she won't ever need a collar. Some outdoor cats don't even wear collars.

You can find breakway collars here;

Thanks to the wonders of elastic safety collars that breakaway if the cat or kitten gets tangled up, your kitty can be fashionable and safe. Look for Aspen collars, they are available at most pet stores or at Amazon.com. My cat loves her hot pink collar adorned with rhinestones! So purr-fect.

P.S. If you're planning to keep your cat indoors (and you really should!) be sure to remove the annoying bell otherwise it will drive you crazy.

I don't think any collars are safe for a kitten. They jump around and play to much for a collar, they can easily become hung and cannot free themselves. Then you find them lying there. I say no collars for kitties, sorry.

Kittens shouldn't be collared. Because cats are such climbers, I have seen cats hung by their collars. I have seen cats get their front leg through the collar and pull their shoulder out of the socket. You don't need to dress up a cat - they have too much dignity.

collars are not safe full stop. All cats, especially kitties who are always on the go, can get caught up on things and choke themselves. Have her micro-chipped for identity purposes instead.

You'll get one at the pet shop, you want one with elastic on so if your kitten catches it it will not choke it.

Get a break-away color, to prevent her from strangling herself should she get caught on anything. My cat has worn pink break-aways her whole life (and she's 12). Try PetsMart or Petco.
