The answers are in a book called "Foods Pets Die For" by Ann N. Martin. It's truely shocking.
Look into Artemis, California Natural and Felidae. They are the best.

Please read the label on your cat's food bag. The first three ingredients make up about 90% of the food. You will find that Purina has two of those three ingredients that are corn. Do you know that the $4 box of corn flakes you buy has 14 cents worth of corn in it? That's OK for you, you put milk on it (vitamin D and calcium) maybe a banana (phosphorus), so it's not a bad food for you. Corn is not a good food for your cat, in fact it's by far the least nutritious grain you cat can eat.
I know for certain that Deli Cat is probably the worst food you could give your cat. It is full of food dye, artificial flavor enhancers, etc.
I can't go on forever and suggest you go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. JeanHofve's article titled "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food". It will give you some guidelines when you go to buy cat food. She also has an article titled "Switching Foods" if you do decide your cat needs better food.
You will be buying more than vitamin pills if you continue to feed your cat low-quality food. You will be spending money at the vet when your cat develops medical issues from a poor diet.
Cats are obligate carnivores and need quality meat protein in their diet. You get the highest amount of quality meat in the canned foods, not the dry.

I have always used the average priced cat food for my two cats until a friend recommended Purina One Chicken and Rice. It is about 4.99 a bag, but within the first 2 weeks, I wasn't finding as many hairballs around the house, and now that is has been 2 months, I have not seen any!!!
In my opinion, it is the best cat food around, and the ingredients are great! If you can aford it, I would highly recommend Purina One Chicken and Rice Formula.

check the ingredients.
Corn or any meat/poultry by-product will not be one of the 1st 4 ingredients if it is good quality. Those are huge fillers that have hardly any nutritional value.
Most good quality cat and dog foods first ingredients will be something like chicken, lamb, rice, oatmeal, etc. NOT corn!
Also look for foods preserved with vitamin E.
Try Nutro Max or Felidae brand cat food if you want truly good food for your cat.

They use higher quality ingredients and less dyes. The higher quality ingredients mean less urinary crystals and that can mean big trouble to a male cat. It is really important to a male cat to feed a good diet because their urinary tracts can become blocked with crystals and they can die. All to save a couple of bucks on a bag of food? Not worth it...

a higher priced cat food has less fillers then a cheep cat food for example corn. look at the ingredents of your cat food if the first one is corn .. then most likely theres more fillers in it and less of what the cat needs. also with a better quality cat food they eat less and poop less also. there cat litter will smell much better with a better cat food.. and better doesn't have to be expencive. try purina one. if u have amale cat urinary track cat food is best. they get bladder infections bad, more prone if nutered. u get what u pay for so to say. lol..proude owner of 3 and a vet tech

I just get average priced cat food for my cat...he's not a prince and I'm not going to feed him gourmet food. He's a cat, he'll live eating regular cat food.

purina alley cat has the nutritional value of cardboard. if you love your pet, you'll be willing to shell out a little more cash to feed it something that will actually nourish it.

The ingredients. The more expensive brands usually have chicken as the first ingredient, the less expensive - corn meal.
